As support act The Gilded Eagles Angels entertained the gradually swelling crowd with catchy, country tinged tunes the eye is immediately drawn to the fact that there are more than a few western shirts and stetsons being sported. Have I wandered into some country music hell? With a sickening splat I’m brought back to planet earth as the band stroll on stage led by Eddie Spaghetti, a man who appears to have been born wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat. They launch into Here I Am followed by Rock-N-Roll Records (Ain’t Selling This Year) and the effect is instant. The crowd visibly perk up and soon are singing along holding rock salutes in the air in front of Mr Spaghetti’s commanding frame.
On a musical level, they play a range of material from their extensive catalogue. If it was my choice I’d go and tell you to download Rock and Roll Records, Pretty Fucked Up and Supersucker Drive By Blues to get a taste of what this band serve up night by night. No review is ever going to accomplish much by gushing about how great a particular song was or how a guitar solo lit up the night. Besides, the Supersuckers are much more important than that in the wider context of why we go to see live music. They effortlessly blend country and rock elements and come out with something that is beautiful in its simplicity: hard rocking tunes with instant hooks that are crafted to perfection. You can imagine AC/DC having a similar draw when they were still playing bars and clubs in the early ’70s, such is the raw power of the sound. Going to a Supersuckers gig may not change your life, but it brings a hell of a smile to your face for that hour and a half as you discover you can’t fail to want to participate. There’s a pleasant mix of age groups too, proof that although the band may look effortlessly cool they’re certainly not a passing fad or flavour of the month.
Some bands get instant success, some bands try for years to crack a market. The Supersuckers don’t appear to give two hoots about fashion or current trends and that’s why they work so well. If I’m being honest this is exactly what I want to see in a band, a great live performance that can be counted on every time. As an audience member you feel special at a Supersuckers show, a rare thing where band and the crowd need each other for the whole thing to work. These guys have it right, they work hard and churn out solid, honest live shows and great records. If no-frills quality rock and roll is up your street then you owe it to yourself to dip a toe in these here waters. www.supersuckers.com www.myspace.com/supersuckers | | | | |

| Re: Supersuckers: Glasgow ABC 27/01/06 Good review.
A guy that drinks in the solid was meant to be going with a mate. Long story short, mate's mum was ill so he couldn't go. The guy who did go spoke to Eddie after the gig when he was hanging around signing t-shirts and suchlike, explained how his mate had missed out.
Eddie Spaghetti got the guy's number and phoned him there and then to say "sorry you couldn't make the show, see you next time!".
It's nice to see a band with no ego who truly appreciate their fans. |

| Re: Supersuckers: Glasgow ABC 27/01/06 All I have to say is that gig was fantastic. I've been waiting a year and a half to see them, missed them last time round, and it was worth the wait! Should come back again sooner though |

| Re: Supersuckers: Glasgow ABC 27/01/06 I didn't get in because I'd been drinking double Jager and Red Bull since 12 and had been kicked out of the Solid for bull in a china shop-ing it.
Kinda shameful but I'm sure the 'Suckers would have understood...
