It’s Fall Out Boy!
This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race. Slightly funky verses give way to a typically upbeat pop punk chorus, complete with occasional wall of sound-esque backing vocals and rather odd boy band type chants. This is text book formula upbeat rock music for kids and folk drunk in nightclubs that’s more catchy than most. Less offensively helium or vocally baffling than previous songs of Fall Out Boy’s that I’ve heard, but that doesn’t make it anymore essential. Out now on Mercury.
Dan Sartain is much better, his
Flight Of The Finch sounds like a bad mariachi ballad lifted from a creaky Spaghetti Western like
A Pistol For Ringo or
They Called Him Bastard. A fun funky Spanish strum, it’s a cute timeless sounding number with Dan’s trademark yokel vocals lathered on top like sweet chilli sauce on a juicy steak. Yum. One Little Indian offer this up, with an equally fun B-side.
