Juicy tunes plus Fall Out Boy

| | Singles: Fall Out Boy, Dan Sartain, Blood Brothers It’s Fall Out Boy! This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race. Slightly funky verses give way to a typically upbeat pop punk chorus, complete with occasional wall of sound-esque backing vocals and rather odd boy band type chants. This is text book formula upbeat rock music for kids and folk drunk in nightclubs that’s more catchy than most. Less offensively helium or vocally baffling than previous songs of Fall Out Boy’s that I’ve heard, but that doesn’t make it anymore essential. Out now on Mercury.
Dan Sartain is much better, his Flight Of The Finch sounds like a bad mariachi ballad lifted from a creaky Spaghetti Western like A Pistol For Ringo or They Called Him Bastard. A fun funky Spanish strum, it’s a cute timeless sounding number with Dan’s trademark yokel vocals lathered on top like sweet chilli sauce on a juicy steak. Yum. One Little Indian offer this up, with an equally fun B-side.
The Blood Brothers give us Set Fire To The Face On Fire which is the most maniacal single I’ve heard yet this year, sounding like The Bronx filtered through a Prodigy machine. Agreeably surly, dangerous and tuneful all at the same time it’s like the best bits of At The Drive-in all over again. Without the daft hair I imagine. Out now via Wichita. | | | |

| Re: Singles: Fall Out Boy, Dan Sartain, Blood Brothers I think it's just knowing that Wentz fucker had anything to do with it that gets me. Just looking at the guy makes my blood curdle. And it'snot even OTT funny and kinda likeable in that Black Parade way. |

Set Fire is great as well, although I'm sufficiently amazed that you didn't slate it. |
