This is an unashamedly Brit Pop summer song about alcoholic misadventure and despite its obvious influence of the Brit Pop kings Blur, this works. There’s no attempt at a serious view of culture, and this a song to be taken light-heartedly. Think “Just A Day” by Feeder, “Country House” by Blur or “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba and you’re just about there.
Lead singer, Patch, describes this song as “our escapist anthem. It’s our hangover song, an anecdotal tale of debauchery. Going out on a school night with the knowledge that you’ve got work the next day and that moment of realisation half way through the evening when it’s too late to turn back!”.
The single itself is a quietly sung tongue-in-cheek tale, but don’t let this one song fool you into thinking this band is all about comedy songs as that’s not the case. The third song on the single is “Black Eye”, a new song from the band (not on their album “Long Live The Ripps”) and has a much more Buzzcocks/Clash sound. This is not a one-trick-pony band.
The single can be heard at the band’s MySpace page,
