Paul Weller & Graham Coxon - This Old Town

Paul Weller & Graham Coxon - This Old Town

Out of the huge catalogue of music these two artists have clocked up individually, everything I have heard has impressed me, therefore the two collaborating intrigued me.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but I was expecting something far rougher and perhaps more sophisticated than this. On first listen I almost dismissed it as just another rubbish indie tune, but on second listen I found myself singing the chorus without even realising it. Having listened to it a few times over the week I know all the words and even caught my Mum humming it whilst doing the dishes. It‘s just an infectious, almost boppy, summer tune—the kind you can imagine driving along the motorway, singing the chorus to yourself and smiling while you do so. The lyrics are, from what I can gather, about moving on from the past but I’m fairly sure there‘ll be other interpretations. It‘s just, for lack of a better word, nice, nothing big or showoffy, just a good, catchy song.

In short, this is nothing entirely new or completely unique, but it is definitely a grower and something to look out for. I’ll be looking forward to see what else the two produce.

This is out now for digital download with a limited edition 7" available from July 30th as part of The Regal Singles Club.

Re: Paul Weller & Graham Coxon - This Old Town

Weller plus the pop of Blur always equals good.
Weller is quite the britpop whore though, playing sides with Oasis and Blur, d'pending on who was better.

Still... This Old Town? As Weller famously said when first hearing "Be Here Now", 'Ah'm not 'avin it."
