The Electric Soft Parade - Misunderstanding (single)

The Electric Soft Parade - Misunderstanding (single)

This is a light and breezy 2 ½ minutes of breezy pop – perfect from a band who come from Brighton. It sounds like it was a track born from sitting on Brighton Beach watching the sun sinking slowly into the sea whilst the soft red light of the last rays of sunshine cannot fail to warm those left on the sands. This is The Beach Boys with a very British electro-pop sound blended in perfectly.

This is Indian Summer music, that laid back feeling after holidays have been taken; after everyone has rushed to buy their summer wardrobes and thoughts of Christmas start to come through, but then the sun blazes and suddenly we want to be back frolicking in warm blue seas and sipping mojitos under huge umbrellas.

The band are 2 brothers who use session musicians for recording and who tour with Restlesslist bassist, Tom Waite, and drummer Matthew Priest, ex Dodgy. The band have released 2 albums to date.

This is a short, dreamy single and whilst it won’t pound into your head with a hammer, it will sooth your brow with an audio massage and is perfect music for all night beach barbeques. For those of you who may have some concern, I can assure you that this is not a cover of the Genesis track of the same name (I know, I was a little worried about that too; not being a Genesis fan and having this single to review).

The second track on the single is Blue It Is and with it’s classical overtones, it is a better track than Misunderstanding. However, it is probably not as soft and commercial as Misunderstanding, so from a commercial point of view the tracks are the right way round. However, the emotional and haunting Blue It Is may be worth tracking down rather than the single itself. It is a beautiful song.

This single is taken from the album, No Need To Be Downhearted. The single can be heard on the band’s MySpace at www.MySpace.com/electricsoftparade where a demo of Blue It Is can also be found, and that is certainly worth taking the trouble to listen to. The single was released on 23 July and is available on iTunes, through HMV and at indie stores. It is also available via Truck Downloads at http://www.7digital.com/stores/produ...88&sid=1583988
