I used to love Inme; to the point where I went to every Glasgow gig I could when they were around the first time. I listen to them now every so often, but purely out of nostalgia, the songs started to grate after a while because there’s not really much to them, the lyrics weren’t great and the music wasn’t fantastic.
`This is their first effort since July 2006, bassist Joe Morgan has been replaced by singer Dave’s brother, Joe McPherson. Not even thirty seconds into the first track, and its apparent they’ve tried and succeeded in maturing their sound, Dave McPherson voice is one that people tend love or hate, but on this album it’s a lot less grainy, in fact they sound like an edgier Biffy. There are some really nice harmonies in there as well. The music itself is much better, the guitar riffs sounding less like something you’d learn in higher music. They suffer from becoming a bit samey; it takes until track number 9, Raindrops on Stones, for me to scrabble across to the cd player to find out what song it is. On second listen, the title track is lovely, a nice ballad that makes me smile. The single, ‘I wont Let Go’ is full of lovely harmonies, with a big, catchy chorus that’ll have you nodding your head in time, there aren’t any songs that I want to skip past, and Im sure that a few more will grow on me when I listen to this a bit more.
A pleasant surprise, don’t judge them on previous efforts, this is a long way away from their first album and definitely something I’ll find myself listening to a lot. Daydream Anonymous is out now on Graphite Records, and you can catch them touring the UK through September and October.
