Hahaha, nice review, lots of personality, though I hate you for misspelling 'Zeppelin'
Like I said though, as pointless as this is, the sound is a vast improvement on the previous generation of digital replicas of proper records![]()
I'm struggling to find anything remotely interesting to say about Mothership, not because the songs are bad—it's the Zeppelin after all—but because, as is pointed out elsewhere, it's yet another compilation album and the track listing remains largely the same. I could go on about how baffled I am that Misty Mountain Hop isn't included on it, but as it turns out that only provides a sentence's worth of rambling.
In comedy fashion I intended to get my dad to review this but my plans were scuppered when I approached him and he said "Led who?". Clearly my dad fails at dad rock (which also rather scuppered my nefarious cheap christmas present schemes and I had to spend seventy-odd quid on getting him the bloody Morse boxset, which at least might stop him watching ITV3 ALL. THE. FUCKING. TIME.)
Anyway, compilation albums are a strange breed—surely fans of the band will have a fair chunk of their back catalogue anyway? And folks who've heard one or two songs, thanks to the wonder of iTunes and the like, will be able to download their own best-ofs without having to rely on record company marketing types telling them what the best-of is?
Ergo I can only conclude that the compilation album is the musical equivalent of a new razor. It's a gift for dads and other obscure male relatives at Christmas when there's bugger all you can think of getting them.
In conclusion: Led Zeppelin - Mothership: better then getting socks.
It's out now and no doubt most folk who were going to buy it already have.

Yeah, i thought the big point about this album was the new remastering?
True, but then i could write a wee review of a fictional Hawkwind compilation that I'll call Lemmy's Warty Face.
Not even a mention of any of the 24 tracks off the compilation. Its a bit like reviewing the special editions of the original Star Wars trilogy and just saying "Well, its Star Wars. You've seen it haven't you?".I'm struggling to find anything remotely interesting to say about Lemmy's Warty Face, not because the songs are bad—it's Hawkwind after all—but because, as is pointed out elsewhere, it's yet another compilation album and the track listing remains largely the same. Nah, in fact he saw the classic line up when they played at The Isle Of Wight. Its his fault that I started listening to Floyd, Gong, Can, Hawkwind, The Grateful Dead, Dr John and Rick Wakeman when i was about 5.
Nevermind the songs that are missing it'd be handy to tell folk what songs are actually on it.
Aye, wasn't the strongest review.

'Alt Nation Reviews', telling you nothing about albums since 2005.
There's already a thread specifically about the tracklisting. Would have thought y'all would have posted in that if you cared so much.

This review could have been shortened down top the first 9 words and been applied to every post you ever make. How the hell did "constructing meaningful sentences and effectively getting a worthwhile point across" not come up on one of those 47 degree courses of yours???
Nah, I'm only joking. Nice little bit of personality in the stuff about your dad and a good commentary on your thoughts on "Best Of" compilations in general, but there's not much about the actual content of this album. Your meat has no skeleton, metaporically speaking. I get the feeling you just kind of went "acht I know what to expect from this and everyone else will know what to expect as well, so whatever" and probably didn't even really listen to it. In fairness, though, I don't blame you since Led Zeppelin are pretty fuckin' gashtronomical. Chuck yer free CD on eBay while it's hot and you can still chalk this up as a winning scenario.
