| The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) The Liquid Ship is possibly the tiniest venue I've ever encountered in my life. It's lovely, however; there's something almost homey about it, and due to its size the gig was pretty intimate. The Living Room Sessions is the recording made of the artists who played. Sadly I missed the last act, Brian Cunningham, because I had to get my last train, but a listen to the CD I received on my way in suggests that I should look out for him.
I arrived in time to catch the end of Stewart Ross (Holy Folks). The three songs I caught were charming enough, but his very strong accent put me off a bit. His lyrics were generally really good, but "you're a bad, bad lassie" made me cringe a little. He won through with other lines such as "everyone loves tuna but no one wants to see a dolphin die".
Up next was Rachel McLennan, who has a beautiful voice, and the lyrics of her songs were fantastic. I'm going to seek out some more of...

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) To be completely honest, I can link you to independent reviews that have said more or less the exact same thing about my performances ("I like it when you whine" being a forever treasured favourite). Those reviews were not by my buddies and I'm not saying this to give the impression that I am wonderfully impressive, more that I make a real effort to sing passionately and it's the strongest feature in my set. It's also more or less all that this review said about me. It's a love/hate thing I think, luckily for me Rach did like it.
Some people actually mistake this angst and passion for... Yodeling? And some really like it.
I think instead of being a tad snide about the friend thing, you could actually just take note of what she said, listen to some music and make your own mind up. There's no right or wrong about it, many critics will not share the same opinions as you regardless of who they are reviewing. All they can do is say what they think and hopefully inspire you to listen for yourself some day.

I was just trying to show you that she may not have been particularly kind to me as what she said has been said before by independent reviewers.

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) I said a "tad" snide. I even put it in itallics.
But I shall retract it, as it may have been unecessary. Sorry if my slight, itallic-ed reference to snideness was unfair on you, Danny.
And like I said, I can still see where you're coming from regarding the actual issue you raised.

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) It seems to me that no one is disputing the content of the article (as eve is clearly incredibly talented) merely the style in which it was written. And whilst it may not be to everyone's tastes, it is surely preferable to no article at all. It's made me go hunt down some new music anyway.

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) I had a listen to Eve's MySpace as a result of the other topic and really liked it, woulda liked to have been there. I see nothing wrong with Bunnylingus' review, because I'd be more surprised if I looked here and it was along the lines of "wank". Very few people are going to write an article about one of their friends slagging them off. Clearly it was going to be heavily biased when you clicked on the article, but what's the problem with that?
No offence meant to Woolies, Bunnylingus, Charlie et. all but I think very few people visit AltNation to read the reviews anyway. Generally it's people that are already part of the community, so I don't think in the grand scheme of things this review will actually make a difference. That's my opinion anyway.

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) Wow, Danny got leapt on. Oh well, he loves it.
Review was a bit short but it did tell me the basic facts I wanted to know about the show, which I was curious about and quite glad to find a handy review of.
I'm only allowing myself to go and see Eve when she starts playing more than one show a year though, we can't let her think she can just get away with that, can we? |

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) listening to her myspace stuff now.
My other half told me Eve was good as well and that she would probably head for greater things and I trust her judgement when it comes to music.
It does remind me of something I used to listen to in the 80's, but I can't quite place it. Actually, and I really don't want to mention Alanis, but......well, that and more than enough Tori.
Myspace really doesn't do it justice I think, needs better production and possibly more backing.
I'd like to hear it live, it could go either way. It'd either come across very well, or the backing gets lost and it becomes a wailing noise.
lets hope for the former.
Oh, it's just come to me, her voice reminds me of stuff by the bangles (not necessarily a bad thing).

I did actually say when holly asked for a reviewer 'I'll do it, but I'll gush because I love Eve's stuff'.
You know yourself how good she is.
Its annoying that I cant be honest about someones music just cause theyre a mate.
Aye, i see all your points, but if you listened to her music, you might see what I was banging on about.

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) Man, stop yer infernal whining. Your last sentence is practically a retread of the one you quoted from Brett, arguing the same point at each other is simply a waste of time.
You should know from being in a band that not everyone is going to like the results you produce. Man/woman up and get on wae it. |

| Re: The Living Room Sessions CD Launch @ The Liquid Ship (feat. Eve Bulloch) Im not arguing the same point, i dont get what I'm supposed to write about thats useful. Actually, genuinely, I have only written 2 reviews and I dont mind being told where I'm going wrong.
Im happy with folk not liking it if I get why.
And yes, maybe a I did whinge a bit, sorry.
