Close your eyes and it's 1998. Ash have taken leave of their senses and asked Billy Joe Armstrong to do guest vocals. Angel Town Pt 2 has some good melodic guitar work and quite a nice layered sound, even if it's somewhat over-produced. There's a pretty good song in here, buried under a terrible vocal track. Every member of Hollywood Ending bar the drummer takes on singing duties, perhaps in a desperate attempt to find someone with ability. The lyrics are, of course, dreadful, but that would be quite excusable were it not for the obnoxious whine in which they are delivered. If you can stomach the kind of irritating complaint that passes for singing nowadays, this single might be worth checking out. Let it take you back to a time when music was fun and people didn’t cry all the time. Turn the treble down.
B-side Always suffers from many of the same problems, but it's slightly more upbeat and gets downright enthusiastic towards the end. Sure, Hollywood Ending are following a formula (called ‘pillage the mid-nineties’), but they're not bad at it. They may well go far. If they can find a singer whose voice has broken, they could possibly even make good music at the same time.
The single features both the album version of Angel Town Pt 2, and the radio edit: the only difference being that the latter has had about a minute of squawking chopped off to bring it down to three minutes. There’s your added value, kids.
1998 was seven - Jesus, seven - years ago. Think about that for a minute. Angel Town Part 2 will be released on the 14th of March 2005 http://www.hollywood-ending.com/ | | | | |

Horrible, somebody review something good quickly.
The Yer Maw album isn't due out for another month so you'll have to find something else. |

| Re: Single: Hollywood Ending - Angel Town Pt 2 This record still gives me nightmares, and the couple of reviews I have half done aren't exactly encouraging, either. But I gather Ian MacKaye's new sideproject is on its way, so positivity will surely presently abound.

| Re: Single: Hollywood Ending - Angel Town Pt 2 Well, if any PR folk want to send us some stuff that's any good, we'll be sure to oblige.
Honesty being the best policy, and all.
Anyhow, I was bored with eulogising about bands I like. 'Mon the variety.

| Re: Single: Hollywood Ending - Angel Town Pt 2 Tony, I'm finding myself half-hoping that you really hate everything about Yer Maw's debut album just cause I think it'd make for a really entertaining review.
'Mon the self-fulfilling wishes. |

| Re: Single: Hollywood Ending - Angel Town Pt 2 Mark, I think we should let you, Gill and Bryan review your own album. I can't think of any harsher critics.

| Re: Single: Hollywood Ending - Angel Town Pt 2 Oh gosh yes, Lets go see Fightstar. Fightstar are really good and anyone who says they're not is just jumping on the 'let's slag Fightstar just cause they're totally musically inept' bandwagon.
Sorry, bit of spitting vitriol there. Being fair, it sounds like a well put together bill. Throw Taking Back Finch on there and you have a clan rally for fashionable retards. |

| Re: Single: Hollywood Ending - Angel Town Pt 2 "Equal parts muscular rock melody, post-hardcore intensity and simple heartfelt groove, Hollywood Ending provide a stunning example of how rock bands can continue to innovate and evolve without losing passion or drive."
It's difficult not to detest anything that comes through the post with that slapped on it.
A note to bands everywhere - when choosing a name, do not pick something that, when Googled, will turn up several thousand results for a Woody Allen film and approximately fuck all for your band.
