To tell the truth I don't mind the music that’s churned out, but I wouldn’t call it a favourite genre. So when Dälek (pronounced Dialect) landed on the desk I can’t say I was overjoyed … but then I wasn’t dreading it either.
Let’s get something straight right from the start. Dälek isn’t bling bling, gangsta corporate rap – it’s nothing like that at all. These guys are not formulaic tune churners and by God am I happy about that. Absence is refreshing, rhythmic and trance like.
There’s a fleeting similarity with the Judgement Night soundtrack in the merger of industrial/rock/rap feel this has. I can’t help rocking and swaying while listening. It’s an involuntary motion, carrying you along with the industrial/trance background and haunting samples, almost like Ministry done by rappers. There’s no rushing of words, just a steady rhythmic flow of lyrics – with meaning rather than boasts.
Perfect for cruising along in the car to, or just chilling out to, this is the sort of hip-hop we need more of – a lyrical and sonic exploration. If you have any real interest in hip-hop or even industrial rock I won’t hesitate to recommend Dälek. On the other hand if you’re into the more commercial hip-hop sound this might not be exactly your shiny thing of choice. Me, I’m off to find the previous two albums from these boys.
Absence is out now on Ipecac Records Dälek | | | | |

| Re: Dälek - Absence I recommend this album for at least a listen to anyone.
If most of the RnB/Hip Hop stuff these days is at the same sort of pop level as McFly, then These guys are Kyuss....Heavy and hard hitting.
There's definatley no 'bling' here.

| I've yet to get a hold of their new album but Dälek are definetely worth getting into on the merits of their back catalogue alone.
They should be headed this way relatively soon on the Isis/Jesu tour, and possibly a tour of their own. |

| Re: Album: Dälek - Absence Someone actually liked one of the records I sent you? Amazing!
For the record, the CD is actually on Ipecac (not Southern) but just to make it extra confusing the double vinyl is on Southern (not Ipecac).
And Dalek won't be touring in the UK with Isis, but they will be here in May on their own. Yay!
Thank you!
