Blink 182, that’s the first thing that springs to mind on hearing opening track
Catherine, but that’s quickly forgotten since the song’s only 45 odd seconds long. You’re then into some serious
Tank Girl soundtrack tunes in the vein of Veruca Salt, L7, Hole etc., washing away most of the Blink 182 thoughts.
The songs obviously draw a lot from singer Vanessa Eve’s past history, touching on being abused in
Scream and then her heroin problem in
My Way. Growing up on the streets has given her a fair few experiences to sing about and she does a fairly good job of getting these across. Thankfully, the music is pretty fine as well, if you’re in to the aforementioned bands.
Overall this is a pretty fine debut album, some catchy tunes that wouldn’t be out of place in the charts but mostly tunes you might connect with on some level. Not the happiest of albums but well worth a listen.
