| Body Count Live in LA Body Count Live in LA just points out how unlucky this band is, loosing three members to leukaemia, drive-by shooting and cancer, ending the lives of more than half of the original BC line-up. So with a new line-up in place the memorial concert at The Troubadours in Hollywood was going to be “emotional” to say the least. The new Body Count explode onto the small stage with some real hardcore energy, in fact if there’s anyone not giving 110% it’s Ice-T himself, but this can be forgiven. As he explains, the reason for lack of studio time and record releases is the fact that member after member of the band keeps dying: it’s going to put a spanner in the works and sap you creatively and emotionally. That aside, what you have is a real tight set of pure Body Count style adrenalin-fuelled songs, from the opening riffs of Body Count’s N the House to the penultimate track and seminal Body Count work Cop Killer, you can’t help but start to nod your head along at some point.
Ok Body Count aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and when they first hit the scene there was a definite huge rift in the metal community as to the merits and flaws of BC, but love them or hate them there was no ignoring them and this shines through on the DVD, in your face, loud and opinionated. Although the picture quality of the gig does seem to drop to DV levels now and then and the camera work occasionally takes on the “mini-cam gaffa taped to fan’s head” route it does give you a good feel for the energy and feel of the concert. The photo gallery is fine and the Ice-T interview on the disc is very much like most other Ice-T interviews, T always has a message, and opinion or point of view regardless of topic. Perhaps he should run for president … then again, perhaps not. So on 27 March run out and snag yourself a copy of this DVD and play it loud—it will drive your neighbours, cat / dog, children, goldfish, brother / sister, mum / dad crazy and that’s a good thing, right? | |
