Chapter XIII are a hard rocking five piece out of Bristol, who initially come across as a Lost Prophets style act only with a grungier edge, but there’s thankfully hooks under the racket that bring them a few steps above that generic description.
Dream Salvation is very much an American style rock record, cuts like the earnest radio grunge of
Hit Me would slot just fine into US FM metal stations alongside Fuel or Velvet Revolver. More aggressive tunes like the emo funk punk of
Lately shows Chapter XIII at their best, a condensed teeth rattle of melodic rock bite.
Unfortunately unless a dose of Lost Prophets luck hits the band I can’t see them getting anywhere on British shores. With the market favouring garage rockers and much retro heavier material being the chief sound of the underground at the moment, Chapter XIII’s brand of melodic rock deserves a better chance. Maybe if they lived in Los Angeles…
