| Asides: Fall Out Boy, R Ashcroft, Therapy?, Coldcut and Giant Drag Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance Aims to be JEW's Sweetness but falls far short. This is everything that stinks about modern commericial rock music, middle of the road pap tailored for middle of the road saps in baggy trousers. Where is a cultural apocalypse when you need one? Richard Ashcroft - Music Is Powerless Christ this is shite! Funk guitar fights with strings and a multitude of sounds for your attention as Ashcroft does his schtik over the top. Mince. Therapy? - Rain Hits Concrete Heard it all before but you can't deny Therapy? for their knack at writing Big Black flected pop punk. Catchy but sour! Giant Drag - This Isn't It - Surly yet sweet grunge pop that is half way between the Breeders and Veruca Salt. Contains a snazzy guitar solo at the half way mark that would make Mascis proud. Coldcut - True Skool - More memorable than it should be this...

Sideshed bashing round 802. The actual thread hasn't been as bad as I expcted.

Did nobody tell them that the bastards always take over the revolution? |

It’s not exactly a social revolution which will have books written about it for the next thirty years … A subgenre of modern punk, at best.
That doesn’t mean I’ve anything against it. I like the stuff, but I think there’s a hell of a lot of godawful mediocrity being committed in it’s name at the moment. Quote:

It generally refers to the fact that when listening to My Bloody Valentine (for instance) in a nightclub, the only dance you can do is the shuffling around the floor staring at your feet dance. Shoegazing, y’see? It’s the sort of lush, feedback-drenched soundscapes from which Sigur Ros et al are derived from.

Aye, i wasn't commenting on its significance, just that youth cults over the years have gradually become fashion statments more than musical genres.

Youth culture and music have always had a somewhat hazy relationship. |
