Personally, tell him to get his arse into a shop, check out some models with decent trems (Floyd Rose is great for locking & keeping it in tune if he's hellbent on whammy bar destruction), & play the guitars!!
There's no point picking a guitar for how good the tremelo system is, if your hands & fingers don't work on the neck & fret...trust me.
