| Re: Kent Armstrong Pickups I know this is quite an old thread but i've had a bit of recent experience with Kent Armstrongs that i thought i'd pass on...
I would never have tried Kent Armstrong if it wasn't for the fact that they were installed on a Jim Reed PRS style guitar i bought recently. They are the HRO WPUJB ,they're open coil ,black with gold writing,4 core & coil tapped.
They're virtually silent in use and i use a lot of high gain, rectifiery stuff, meaty as humbuckers, as single coils they're really clean but with a slight warmth, not muddy, a really nice sound, add a bit of reverb and you're looking at doing a convincing Blue Hotel by Chris Isaak.
These PUPs rock.I've got a Westfield SE888 PRS style for experimenting with (don't laugh, they're great),electrics were poor but the body( photo flame finish front sadly) and set neck are Mahogany, the fretboard is Gibson-like, very playable.Anyway i've just bought a pair of the Kent Armstrong HR (WPU11) closed humbuckers in Gold to match the hardware, they haven't arrived yet, getting twitchy!
For me Kent Armstrongs are a definate thumbs up.I know its always difficult to part with the hard earned when it isn't Bare Knuckles,Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio but online you can pick up a pair of KAs for £50 ish (normally £40 - £50 each), they really deliver, anything else is down to technique and your rig IMHO. |
