| Line 6 Spider III HD150 Head & Cab I was looking at gettin a decent half stack for gigging with, and one of my mates suggested looking at Line 6 stuff.
I saw this head and cab, and they seem to be a decent price too.
Anyone had any experience with them? Good points, bad points?
Or would anyone be able to recommend something in a similar price range (round about £560-580 all-in)?
Cheers!

Different amps are better suited to different styles...

Al | Well, see that is some very obvious information that I should have included lol.
We basically play some pretty heavy/fast metal. So far, tuning is just at E & Eb but ther is the potential to play around with drop D and C.
It's lik thrashy kinda stuff but with a bit of a groove goin about it, instead of mind-numbing, clinical stuff lol.

Just thinkin that if I like the sound and the amp is loud enough, that I should be OK as long as it's reliable/not pish lol.
I'd seen a few things about people not wiring head to cabs right, and blowing the arse out of something lol. Something to do with only connecting one cable out instead of two?
I'd also be willing to go for a cab from a different manufacturer if it'd be better/hardier than the Line 6.

| Re: Line 6 Spider III HD150 Head & Cab Personally I think Line 6 stuff is god awful. The thing that bugs me with transistor amps is that you think you've got a good sound then you turn it up and the dynamic doesn't changed. It's a processed sound that's good for recording, but I wouldn't use one live if you paid me.
The VH100R head is a beast (in fact I've got one on loan that's for sale right now) but I don't know if it's high gain enough for you. Lovely head though, but too loud for most places in my experience.
Funnily enough I've got an old Laney Klip[p head too that I'm attempting to restore. Good sound head, but not something I'd buy unless I wanted that specific sound. It's dead easy to get a loud amp, but "loud" shouldn't be a consideration when you're buying. |

If I was going for an Orange I'd either get a Tiny Terror or a Rockerverb... the Thunderverb is amazing but just too bloody loud |

| Re: Line 6 Spider III HD150 Head & Cab Main problem with the Laney Clip is it's pretty heavy. Also a lot of folk I know are getting hard on's for Matamp and Sunn amps, you got any info on them. |

| Re: Line 6 Spider III HD150 Head & Cab Pffft, the Laney Klipp weighs hee haw
Sun and Matamp.. hmmm. Old stuff that folk get obsessed about that I don't really understand. Having said that, Strung Out have one of the tiny 10w Matamps in for a good price.
I really can't be arsed with old amps anymore, they break when you're out gigging them |

| Re: Line 6 Spider III HD150 Head & Cab Yep, that's the one I've got. One of the lightest heads I've ever had, and it's even got proper point to point wiring.
Think it;s headed for the bin mind you, One of the transformers is blown and I'm beginning to doubt it's worth fixing after I've ordered all the new caps and pots/ valves it needs. |

| Re: Line 6 Spider III HD150 Head & Cab See, that's where I've been kinda worried, having a good sound at a fair volume that just can't cut it when you need it louder. Hmmm.
I like Orange stuff. Unfortunately the Thunderverb is out of my price range though. I know that you should look for a decent amp and not worry too much about how loud it goes, but would a Tiny Terror be able to cut through for gigs?
