I wouldn't shop in either Sound Control or McCormacks.
Sound Control: Too pricey, staff for the most part give poor advice. As Al says there are some good guys there that know what they're doing but that's been in slow decline for a while now.
McCormacks are another one I'm told are close to the wall too, and I'm not surprised bearing in mind they appear to have had the same stock for aaaaages. Staff wouldn't say hello to you if you walked in and threw your chequebook on the table.
From my mate Dougie
Sound control went into liquidation this morning, and I, and all my co-workers were informed we were dismissed, with immediate effect.
They've closed 12 branches (out of 24) today, so my heart goes out to all the other cunts who lost their jobs today too.
If some of the branches are still open then presumably it's administration not liquidation?
Drink up with me now and forget all about

And I'll make you okay and drive them away

I copy and pasted, Im not gonna correct him since he's now jobless.
Oh go on, I'd bet it would cheer him up.

Well he does have plenty of spare time now, I'll loan him an encyclopedia.
This does suck.
"If little red riding hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I'd expect you to chin the bitch."
I must admit, I'll miss it. But, like the Cathouse, it is years past its prime and should probably close while it still retains a little dignity.
Mark E. McKeown: I will NOT be graceful, I will SHOW MY WORKING.
Clear Air Turbulence: Outsider Techno.
Bunny & The Misshapes: Really?
this thread reminds me that i rarely ever buy anything from music shops.
So, to the important part - fire sale at all?
I've never had much of a problem with sound control although their stock had became a little stale of late. Some of the guys that worked there were dicks at times though especially that guy that done jimmy saville impressions all the time.
I've never bothered shopping there, but if they are selling things off cheap then I'll have some new amps thankyouverymush.
They're utter shite, I've never even bought a packet of strings there. Only people I ever used were the techs on the bottom floor for a couple of amp repairs, they've always been excellent.
I don't compute you people that say that you "baulk" at paying 5-10% for a store that have the decency to kit out their branch with the best of gear for you to try out while some wanker online manages to sell at a cut price because they don't have all the normal overheads a shop would have.
Guitar Guitar and Sound Control (and McCormacks and Merchy to an extent) have been suffering for years with trying to compete prices with these people and I think its a real shame that the likes of Thomann, Dolphin Music and Gear4Music are flourihing from their PC desks while stores that give young guys as well as old the chance to try some decent gears and give assistance are failing.
Gibson and Fender are at a point where they are going to stop giving deals to these online stores until they give something back, ie - have a stand or display.
Anyways,
if I was a big store, paying all my overheads and let you guys have a shot of a les paul for an hour, only to go nah, its a 10er cheaper online because some yahoo in austria is undercutting me online (as the don't have the expenses) i'd be a fucking dick to you as well.
I think it's a real shame that Glasgow has lost a large musical presence.
