| Re: Sound Control - oops! I spoke to a reliable source and found out the real reason Sound Control has got into this mess.
I don't retract anything i've said about the online mess, but, this had nthing to do with SC's demise. They deserve it. |

On a side note.. 3 other independent guitar shops closed this week, one in Sheffield, one in Leicester and one just outside London. It's not easy for anyone at the moment.
The other thing to think about, since not many people know that SC was part owned by the Bank Of Scotland, who'll be responsible for a large chunk of the loss, is that this will effect ALL music stores and their dealings with the banks. Everyone will be seen as a risk now. I know we had our bank business manager on the phone yesterday asking questions about how things had been going since we opened.
Add to that the manufacturers and distributors who have all lost a shit load... lots of deals from them will be getting changed and re-shuffled, which will effect the prices the retailers buy at, which means you'll probably see things going up a little in price in the near future.

hate when people advertise the originaly rrp price from before the product was even launched when it comes to sales! It was 6000000000 million quid but you can have it today for a fiver, thats a saving of over 500million !!!!!
its amazing what massive effects can be caused by a few people defaulting on there morgage can cause! add to that the rising cost of houses, petrol, beer, n it spells fucked for commodities that are seen as luxury! can anyone spell recession? lol

Al | Its like Sound Control exploded from overpricedness and its now lightly showering every other music store with its mark-up. |

Well, wouldnt say it was their overpricedness, I'd say it was more about the willingness of other suppliers to run on such minimal profit margins.
It's something I've been looking at quite a bit in the last few weeks, and I cant work out how some of these places, specifically online retailers, can operate on such low mark ups.
I was challenged on the price of something I was selling last week, the guy said he'd seen it much cheaper online, so I asked him to show me where. He was right. I worked out that the place he'd seen was making no more than £20 profit on an item costing nearly £2k.. thats a 1% mark up..
You have to be doing HUGE stock turnover to be able to work on margins like that...
