LOL-some Audiophile products :)

http://www.ilikejam.org/blog/audio/audiophile.html

Examples:
Quote:
You have to de-magnitize your CDs, CDRs, DVDs, Cables etc to get the most out of your setup!

All kind of optical discs (CDs, CDRs, DVDs, SACDs and more) benefit from being demagnitized! The sound is clearer and with more dynamics and power.

The same goes for cables!
And...

Quote:
D Stoplight is a proprietary plastic coating that is applied to the edge of a Compact Disc to reduce the scattered reflections of the laser beam and increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the detected laser. The result is a significant decrease in the harsh "edginess" in the sound of many CD's and an increase in clarity, resolution and ambience.

"The improvement was astonishing!" - Dick Olsher, Stereophile, March, 1990.
Dear god...
Makes folk I argue with in work, that refuse to believe that the only advantage of a more expensive digital audio cable is that it might be slightly harder-wearing if often moved, seem reasonable!

This is amazing.

Quote:
The Altmann Acoustic Panel is the foundation of every great sounding room, whether it is used for recording, listening or live performances, as it offers vibrational alignment for any acoustic event.

The material is solid spruce wood, with a smooth surface and treated both sides with a special blend of all-natural ingredients including - among a variety of oils and resins - fossil amber.

The combination of high-quality wood and special treatment gives the panel a vibrational- and reflection-characteristic that matches the Mother-of-Tone character, the ear's own character after which all sounds are evaluated.

The nominal size of the Altmann Acoustic Panel is a golden section 80 x 50 cm (31.5 x 19.7 inch) with a 19mm (0.75 Inch) strength, and about 3.5kg weigth.
It's a piece of wood. A piece of fucking wood. Maybe a short plank if you want to be generous. And it costs $300!

Re: LOL-some Audiophile products :)

This takes the biscuit, it's been doing the rounds for a couple of weeks:

Denon Ethernet Cable (Amazon link, Denon link). It costs $500 and won't give you any better data transfer rates than something you can splice together yourself for about 50p.

Quote:
Denon's 1.5 meter (59 in.) ultra premium Denon Link cable was designed for the audio enthusiast. Made from high purity copper wire and high performance connection parts, the AK-DL1 will bring out all the nuances in digital audio reproduction from any of our Denon DVD players with the Denon Link feature. Attention to detail when building this cable was used by employing high quality insulation, tin-bearing alloy shielding and woven jacketing to reduce vibration and to add durability. Additionally, signal directional markings are provided for optimum signal transfer. Rounded plug levers help prevent breakage.
(Emphasis mine)

I remember years ago, Kawasaki used to sell an item called a 'Side Stand Support Device', which went underneath the side stand of your bike to stop in sinking into soft ground when you parked.... £89 (in old money) for a 6" square bit of 1" plywood.

Some people will buy almost anything... as is proved with the people who still fall for 419 scams..

Audiophilia is our society’s way of telling you that you earn too much money and are still a boring bastard.
