| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Yup.
Its undeniably a high quality guitar, I'm just not childish enough to think that someone using one it makes it any better or worse than any other high-quality guitar. |

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS I prefer it when he's campestral. Doesn't have the charm otherwise.

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Is no-one going to defend the PRS? MarkMono couldn't penetrate the existential defence of Strat vs LP so what does the young pretender PRS have to offer the Strat doesn't already deliver?

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Strats, LPs and PRSs are all great guitars, though I think that PRS guitars are generally well over priced.
I'd have to say that out of all them *I* prefer Strats purely for what I play on guitar, the feel of the neck and the way the guitar fits to play. But, it doesn't make them the best guitar.
Also, though I don't disagree with the fact that you've named some bitchin guitarists, the folks you would class as the best guitar players that "make" Strats the best, are all total matter of opinion, making this entirely unfair.
I mean, if you wanted to mention a few more, according to my personal taste, you could look at Bruce Kulick, Joe Perry, Slash (absolute technical ability aside, writes some pretty good songs!), Randy Rhodes, Ace Frehley, Zakk Wylde, Alex Lifeson, David Gilmour..........look how many play LPs.
Quality-wise, much of a muchness.

If this 'contest' is on for famous guitarists then prs is definately up there for top spot!
oh, and apparently alex lifeson plays prs now? |

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Being the resident authority on Frank Zappa I'd like to inform you Campestral, that he never really played one guitar for his career. For his early days (60s) he used a Hagstrom 335 effort, then switched to a heavily modified SG copy for the early 70s (the one in Baby Snakes came later, aka the Baby Snakes SG) then during the late 70s / early 80s he played a modified Les Paul (see Shut Up N Player Your Guitar album cover) and then switched to a modified Strat with custom wound Duncans.
However, during all of these periods he played different guitars at different times, the tone on Joe's Garage for example, is quite obviously a mix between a Strat (Watermelon In Easter Hay) and his SG & Les Paul on other tracks
The point is, this thread is entirely pointless, because virtually every guitarist worth a shit uses different guitars for their different tonal possibilities, therefore using an artist's preference from one time or another as a way of establishing "the best" is pretty redundant and stupid, as most people didn't think one was "the best" themselves.
