| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Is a Stradavarious the best violin? One could say theoretically no because it's all down to taste but we're talking about reality here not theory and all the best violinists in the world will say the Strad is the best violin. You don't think the Strat would be the most commonly re-produced guitar in the world because it's the 2nd best guitar? Exactly, it's because it's the best.
And JM knows it that's why he never mentioned all the top players in the world who play the 3rd best guitar
PS Slicer et al, how can you say I only mentioned two virtuosos? Hendrix, Vaughan, Beck, Clapton and Malmsteen are all nenowned. Plus if you seen Slash on the tele trying to cover Hey Joe with a fag in his mouth you'd realise by how awful he played that he's more of a poser than a guitarist. That's why he chose the second best guitar.
Strat wins again. It's better than Phelps

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS This is a silly, silly thread. The player, or amount of players behind the guitars mean absolutely nada in terms of which guitar "wins" out of the lot.
What the guitarist plays is a personal thing. What they feel most comfortable with. Not because they think it's better than all the other guitars...

Seriously, if you think that Strats are the best, that's fine, it's your opinion and you are entitled to it. It's not fact.
And, where did I say that you only mentioned two? Slash is better than just a shite guitarist. Not insanely mind-blowing, but who gives a shit. A song that I dig like fuck is easily on par with the work of any virtuoso guitarist. I like both simple and complex arrangements, doesnae mean one is better than the other though. Quote:

I've got a:
Fifty years of Fender Squier Strat
Epiphone Goth Explorer
Jackson PS2
Schecter C1 Plus
Ibanez VBT700
Inanez RG350MDX
ESP LTD H300 (like an early 2000ish one, older style head stock)
All totally different in their own way, ALL pretty neat guitars, ALL played for some fairly different styles/parts.
And *I* prefer most to the Strat.

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS I like any guitar that can take a beating as I like to fight it on stage. Strats snap to easily, so therefore they are the worse guitar. But then so do SG's, any guitar that can take a bottle smashing into it without losing the tuning is great by me. |

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Here we go again...
At least hes not hiding under Campestral.
Actually Gilmour is the greatest strat player ever... Fender had a whole thing about it he won...
I know you believe all that shit and are a total sheep so it should change your opinion (hah)
Anyway strats... les pauls.... prs?....
who cares.
I still havent figured out what this thread is about...
Anyhow if I wanted a strat I wouldnt even use a fender... i'd have a silhouette.
Doesn't matter anyway because the Axis is the greatest guitar in the world. |

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Good god - does this argument still exist?
It is based on a super-philosophy - that there is 'one guitar to rule them all'.
Where does that end? You could say the same about guitar players.
The eventual result would be only one guitarist in the world playing the only model of guitar available in the world.
Articles would be written about his prowess by the one music journalist in the world.
Surely the beauty is the variety - the variety in players as much as in the instruments themelves?
In some people's eyes, Paul Simon isn't the best guitarist in the world. But i'll tell you something - he's the best Paul Simon i've ever heard
B.B King is no Joe Satriani, but he's one hell of a B.B King
Joe Satriani is no B.B King, but he's one hell of a Joe Satriani
There are many, many great guitars out there.
A few I own that I would recommend (that haven't been mentioned here) are:
Vigier Excalibur
Parker Fly
Caparison TAT
Zodiacworks Darkstar SC (still waiting on it, though)
Buscarino Virtuoso
Gretsch
etc etc
Robert Johnson also managed fine on many old, beat-up guitars.

| Re: Guitar Showdown! Strat vs Les Paul vs PRS Smoggie Exile do you live and work in London? If you do then maybe you can afford this
Interesting to note that they picked a strat and that the previously most expensive guitar was also a strat. So the strat wins again! Twice
I think Gary Moore is the only person in your list who would make it into a 'greats' list. Randy Rhoads is overrated no?
I hear the Tokai Love Rock is maybe even better than the real thing?
It is sad to see the LP resorting to the lowest common denominator in its bid to impress and dragging the PRS down with it
