    Wireless/radio microphones (for drums)

I've never had any experience of wireless microphones, and I'm pretty much a n00b in general when it comes to audio tech, so any advice is welcome. I'm wondering if it's possible to mic up drums wirelessly without spending a fortune? I mainly want to mic up the kick but it'd be nice if the setup could be expanded to include other drums if necessary. Doesn't need to be particularly high quality, just usable for small gigs.

    HELLO! Something in my department

Right! wireless mic's on a drum kit.. no need.. too bloody expensive.. no one really makes them.
Also.. the 'wireless' bit is usually a bit chunky.. just gets in the way.

Where are you looking at doing this? Any 'decent' venue should have a selection of mics for your kit.. i'd like to think that rehearsal rooms would have at least kick/snare/hat to run thru the monitors in the room.

Also probably want to look at mounting the mics on the kit.. rather than using a load of stands.

I can help you spend a fortune on bits..

Can do you some good pricing on Sennheiser and Audio Technica mics....

Heh, well I'm considering doing some Lightning Bolt style 'drums in the middle of the room' sort of gigs. I figure most of the kit would be loud enough on it's own but the kick may get lost a bit. Don't really want folk tripping over cables or stands

Also, I've seen setups where drummers mount a good mic inside the kick permanently with just a wee output socket on the shell for the sound dude to put a cable into. Quite fancy that as I generally prefer the sound of an un-ported kick but sound engineers generally moan if they don't have a big hole on the resonant head for them to stick mics in, so an internal mic may be a good option. Again, my apologies for not really having a clue - I just hit stuff and drool occasionally.

Mic inside the kick - You want a Sennheiser e902 or a Shure beta91.. but you dont really want to be having extra holes in your shell.

If you dont have some sort of port in your kick drum.. there's no where for the air to go easily..

You could.. technically.. add Sennheiser SK300 transmitters plugged onto the mics.. but with them and the receivers, you'll looking at LOADS of money... about £600 for each mic.

Yeah, I like a massive boomy sound rather than the flat 'thud' sound most drummers go for. Apparently with the mic inside the kick near the batter you can still get good attack as well as the huge resonance of all the trapped air.

Eek! Oh well, it can be un-miked/micced/miced/mic'd/however you spell it or folk can just dodge cables

P.S. Can't rep you, but cheers anyway!
