brass can be kinda nice but maple/birch suit my tastes better even for rock music.

| Re: [Drums] Right, Mon, Pics of Your Kit. The Omar Hakim snare is mahogany, it's got a really nice sound from it and the fact it's that one inch shorter in diameter makes all the difference, pretty much the sound I've been wanting from a snare drum for ages. The emporer X skin on it makes all the difference, really can't wait to start recording with it in the next few weeks! |

next gig is with a jazz band, gonna have to take as little as possible, that genre seems to value talent over sheer quantity of equipment.
(uh-oh!)

| Re: [Drums] Right, Mon, Pics of Your Kit. I've not had much experience with mapex kits but any time I've played them I've always though the drums were 'ok' but the hardware really pissed me off.
I owned an Omar Hakim snare a while back. I picked it up rather cheap second hand from that shop out at kelvingrove. Couldn't ever get it sounding the way I wanted though so it ended up on ebay.
So there.

| Re: [Drums] Right, Mon, Pics of Your Kit. The drummer in the clash tribute bnd we had in last week had a mapex kit and it looked and sounded lovely, but yeah, the hardware looked fiddly - to the extent that he actually gave up trying to get the third tom where he wanted it and just got rid of it altogether! Yamaha hardware doesn't delight me either (except for my BD pedal).
Premier and Pearl hardware am de best.

| Re: [Drums] Right, Mon, Pics of Your Kit. Ordered myself two new Premier stands today, I shall report back. That said, you can get minted Premier stands off ebay for £20 that blow much mroe expensive stands right out of the water. |

Except for pedal and stool my hardware is all Yamaha (dunno the series, but the decent double braced stuff) and I've got it set up perfectly for me, but I could see it being a problem for others. The tom mounts aren't as versatile as Pearl, although I prefer the YESS 'nodal' mounting system, and the boom bit of the cymbal stands get slightly gouged when tightened which isn't ideal if your setup changes often.

| Re: [Drums] Right, Mon, Pics of Your Kit. Dunno bout Premier or Pearl hardware. It always seem just that little bit less flexible and clunky. Mapex stuff is ok, but never had much use with it.
I'm using Yamaha arms and stool, gibraltar rack, tom arms and hat stand and DW kick pedals, so really cant complain.
The gibraltar hats are a thing of beauty, but never had a reason to try out their stands. |

| Re: [Drums] Right, Mon, Pics of Your Kit. It's six and half a dozen I think. The Pearl and Premier stuff gets my vote because it's solid and reliable. The best stuff they do does tend to be heavy and isn't eneryone's cup of tea but i think that if you get it then it's hardware for life |
