eufff....well....my very initial thoughts...(1) someone telling me *not* to do something, generally makes me go right on out there and do it (very generally - i like to be vaguely consistant with my thoughts on tattooing minors etc) (2) how DARE anyone tell me what i can and can't do with my own body (3) having said that - if it stops a young woman on the verge of adulthood gettting her clit chopped off to fulfill some ridiculous cultural/religious more, then i will happily foresake having a needle pased through my own bits (4) but it won't. legislating against something rarely prohibits someone from doing something on the basis of religious beliefs (5) genital piercings, are not about mutlilation, but adornment (6) (tenous point - stick with me) the sponsor of the bill has never heard of people/women piercing their genitals through choice/preference...Queen Victoria didn't believe in lesbians....they didn't just stop because one powerful person didn't believe in them.
to an extent, it's a pertinent point. i belive that the bill has been brought to attempt to stamp out female genital mutilation from a religious perspective. personally i believe that if there is such thing as a god, 'they' invented the clitoris and if one believes that god is beneficent, then the happy little fun button of flesh serves it's pupose very well indeed, thank you. To remove it, becaue it's only purpose is to enhance female sexual pleasure is therefore against gods will...some people just can't have it all ways - it is either accepted that in all ways that the human body is sacred and cannot be tinkered with (tattoos = *bad* = hell) or the bits have to be chopped off. (another modification) personaly it puts mein mind of a bunch of screaming hypocrites.
interesting that it only applies to females - although i accept that female genital mutilation is more generally frowned apon than male circumcision, both have unfounded health and/or religious reasons cited and i think that neither is necessary.

Not much to do with anything, but a fun fact nonetheless: They'll take yer piercings out if yer going into hospital as an in-patient for any reason. They'll cut them off, if they have to. Something like 40% of doctors have no idea that tongue piercings can be unfastened and removed. I think about that, and then I think about genital piercings, and then I worry quite a bit.
Still, though. Georgia is utterly fucked.
