Re: Aberdeen

i have to agree. i have lived here all my life and find it to be a dump. people who say it isn't are either a) blind or b) lying. aberdeen is full of minks and chavs and are the stingiest bunch of people i have yet to meet. of course this is not true of all, but on the whole applies. people can be friendly but i find people in other cities like glasgow or edinburgh to be more so, also, there is more to do and it tends to happen that everyone eventually knows each other through someone or another.

the beach is dirty, council facilities are diabolical, there is nothing for young people to do. the nightclubs and bars are sub-standard and the level of service is disgraceful, the only reason no-one complains is that they are used to it. i plan to move away sooner or later but plan to work my way out of here so may float around for another few years but attitudes like katie's are typical. while making the point that aberdeen isn't a shithole (all though you didn't really make any case, just attack catherine for being from the mother nedland, which i'm sure she isn't) she falls flat on her face. try stating what is so great about aberdeen. not that it's a complete void wasteland...

Re: Aberdeen

or c) they are eminently sensible?

I am guessing you haven't lived anywhere else and only visited other cities so I won't argue all points as you seem to be wrong with everything you say from my experiences & point of view

But: no the beach is not dirty, well, aye, kinda but it's still one of the cleanest in the UK
It also has better fucking sand than most and head north of the Don and it only gets better...
There is nothing for young people to do anywhere. This is a fact that is true of the entire world - it's what being a teenager involves, but yes I imagine it sucks.

Aberdeen's nightclubs & bars sub-standard?! fuxake. Aberdeen has some of the best nightlife you will find in the UK. It loses big time on attracting big name bands & djs, aye, but the venues are top class.

But see all that, none of it matters, all it means is that you don't like the place and I do. If all you want is a Big (identikit) European City then Aberdeen isn't for you, if you want a parochial small town then Aberdeen isn't for you.
If you want a bit more variety and interest than either provide then you won't do better in Scotland than Aberdeen, and you'd be hard pushed to find a better place to live within the UK.

Re: Aberdeen

ive lived in Ayr for a year and i prefere aberdeen over anywhere. i like the size of it. i like how theres more to do that other places. i like how everyone knows each other. i dont find the chavs or neds or whatever that much of a problem. the things i do in aberdeen seem to not involve them. i go places that they wouldnt get in (ie moshulu). i want to live here when im older. glasgow's to big and i find it not inviting. i want my kids to grow up in aberdeen. i love in bod and its a really nice area. so ill defend aberdeen to anyone. and i have lived somewhere else to compare.

yeah...i miss home so much that it's not funny. i wish i'd moved back after first year. But i probably would regret it, that's why i decided to stay. glasgow is friendly enough as a place but making close friends is soooo much harder.

i dont know why people find aberdeen bad at all! i guess it just depends what sort of thing floats ur boat but i'd pick aberdeen over glasgow anytime, even though i feel so out of place in aberdeen due to me thinking of glasgow as my home.

Re: Aberdeen

I'm fae Ballater (40 miles west of Aberdeen, accessable by one bus only) and it suck ass. Aberdeen City is so much better the Aberdeebshire tho. There's a reason why I don't plan to be sober till I get back to Glasgow.

Re: Aberdeen

Fair enough you like Aberdeen and I don't to a degree, I actually do like Aberdeen somewhat. However, Aberdeen beach is dirty (dangerous levels of radiation and bacteria that can lead to serious illness - oh, let's go build some sandcastles! hardly)

I don't necessarily want to live in a big city, I like the size of Aberdeen, I just think that the place has so much more potential that it just doesn't live up to. I'm sorry but the level of service in Aberdeen is sub-standard, the way staff treat customers in shops/pubs/clubs is very poor. Of course there are some places, Moshulu of course has excellent friendly staff but actual proper bar tendering is not up to correct standards. I myself have been professionally trained so I know what I'm speaking about and the comparative levels of service all over the country.

Go further south out of Scotland or especially America. I doubt that one bar person in Aberdeen could find a job in a professional bar over there.

Re: Aberdeen

wow this is an old thread! well, both ayr and aberdeen are cool as far as i know (trust me i've spent a LOT of time in both), but they do have their downsides as do all places. like ryan said, for its size it has decent shopping facilities and alright venues for drunking it up! bit cold though!!
