| DEGRASSI ::: Live this Thursday at Soundgarden Bob Idlewild's new band ...
Based in Edinburgh, Degrassi formed in late 1999, and have received critical acclaim from the likes of NME, Melody Maker, Radio 1, and much of Scotland's music press. The band are Michael Branagh (Drums/Vocals), Bob Fairfoull (Guitar), Tom Nicol (Bass/Guitar/Vocals), Scott Smith (Guitar/Vocals). An extensive list of live performances has been built up over this period. (Click here to see a list of previous gigs). 2001 saw their first John Peel session on BBC Radio 1. A second session followed in 2002. The band played T in the Park in 2001 & 2002. Degrassi recorded their debut e.p. `Terminal Ocean' in 2002. It was released through Edinburgh's SL Records, and was produced by Michael Brennan (Mogwai, Super Furry Animals). "Think of Idlewild's hooks, Mogwai's post-rock soundscapes and New Order's timing and synchronisation and you're approaching where the band are now coming from. Tremendous stuff." Vic Galloway - Radio 1 "While there's an obvious nod to Mogwai, theirs is an original sound: part Pink Floyd, part Wire, part Smashing Pumpkins with close-harmony vocals, part heads-down thrash." Simon Stuart - Sunday Herald
