Weekend Review

Friday - The Wrecking Ball

This is my drinking night so my recollection is a little hazy. I remember that Ross squrited some Mr Muscle in my face when he was cleaing up at closing time... so I emptied the foam fire extinguisher on him. Turned him into a snowman. The bar was reasonably busy, mainly with students. The Polish Pepper vodka is lethal

Saturday - Ask The Drummer

This is a local covers band, and they play a decent mixture of oldie covers such as Eagles, Beatles, and REM. The drummer does most of the singing Don Henley style and has a terrific voice. Three members of the band share vocal duties and they do some decent call & response type vocals. They performed a first class Darkness cover.

We don't put on that many covers bands these days, but these guys were entertaining and played for a long time.

The bar got very busy from around 2230 and the crowed were more interested in drinking Addlestones, and some of them mistook the band for the jukebox (an unintentional backhanded complement).

Sunday - 48K and The Munsters of Rock

One of our busiest Sundays this year. 48K played an absolute stomer and ellicted an excellent response from the crowed. All eyes were on the band.

The usual 48K gremlins prevented us from getting under way on time, and this delayed the Jam Session by 30 mins. There were lots of jammers, with Caroline, Charlie, Mikie, Kielan, Dave, and the 3/4s of The Fox AKA Kircaudy Girls all lined up.

Fanny in a Boot (house band) got off to a storming start for once opening with an excellent jazz/rock cover of Billie Jean (you really gotta hear this), they worked their way through Sylvia and Highway Star among others before getting the talented Caroline up for vocals on Piece of My Heart, Voodoo Chile, Nutbush City Limits, and a storming Rock 'n Roll. After the break Dave and Mikie came up for some Jazz, then wrung out some Cream with Pug on vocals.

Next up The Fox came up for 3 numbers and a fantastic response. Their frontman is VERY active and exciting to watch. Hopefully we'll see more of them in coming weeks.

Fanny in a boot closed with Whipping Post, Hocus Pocus, and a cover of the Darkness where Bob forgot the words. Again. He was the only person in the bar that didn't know them.

Kicking out time was a prolonged affair.

All in all a really enjoyable weekend.

Yes I came in on the Sunday and Wondered what on earth the cardboard was doing in the coin slot of the Juke Box.... Ahh now all is explained.

Thing is I was well on when they did the sound check and I thought WOW this is great, but having to get a Bus back to Fyvie, I left just as things were getting going.

I am not sure if Ask the Drummer write any songs and perform them but as a seasoned rocker (age 54) I was WELL impressed with the two numbers I heard them play.

Flash did an amazing job sorting out the sound as they performed. No one even noticed apart from me. The end result was WELL WORTH IT!

Looks like I missed out on yet another good night in the Moorings. Lisa was flying the flag for me for a few hours anyway.
When is the Moorings picture gallery going up? It's killing me out here not seeing a bar full of drunken arses.

Carl.
Yes I had a long chat with Lisa on Sat 15th, She had a GOOD night for sure. Then I had to sober up and fix a stuck pinball other end of Union Street, but made it back till closing time having booked into the Jarvis just round the corner.

A lady of the night caught me at the corner of Market Street and Regents Quay offering Sex for £20... Not a bad price I thought wondering if she took Visa or Mastercard!! Then I thought this is silly I will miss all the music in the Moorings, so told her to try elsewhere!

My head is on an other planet today and I am broke.... Yep I had a good night too!

Hi there Carl - yep Sat was a great night, the 3 bands really rocked. Black Atom pulled out at the 11th hour, but were replaced with an impromptu, but stunning performance by Keilan & chums aka Inept303. Flash should post a run-down soon 4 all 2 see

Lisa was flying the flag for me for a few hours anyway.

That's great. I could do with a good laugh out here sometimes.
In the meantime however, I've been eyeing up some new Jagermeister recipies..... http://www.jager.com/frontdoor/recipe.cfm

Oh the things you do when you are supposed to be working!
