| regular Movie Night anyone? After some discussion and research into the necessary licenses etc, it may be possible for us to operate a cult movie night once a week, probably on a Tuesday. We're looking at installing a large wind down screen immediately in front of the stage shutter door. The screen would be approx 9 feet x 6 feet 9 inches in order to show both widescreen 16:9 and also standard 4:3 films. We'd also fit a DVD CRT movie projector onto the first ceiling beam. The sound would come through the PA system. The experience would be as close to cinema quality as you can get outside of the cinema.
The plan would be to show either 1 or 2 movies each week depending on how long the movies are, starting at 7pm and 9pm.
The movies themselves would be highly regarded famous movies and cult movies. Everything from Pirates of the Carribian to The Godfather.
It looks like 50 people could watch a movie in reasonable comfort, with a good view of the screen. Drinking and smoking would be permitted... unlike most cinemas.
Please note that we would NOT be showing any sporting events!
Given that we'd only be showing 2 movies each week, there is no real scope for voting, or punter selection. It's wouldn't be like the jukebox.
In order to proceed with this we'd like to gauge the interest level, and whether anyone would plan to show up on a regular basis. Just speaking to people in the bar there appears to be a LOT of interest so far. We got 250 suggestions for movies in the space of an hour, and 90% of those were dooable.
Obviously this would mean no jukebox during the performance, the rear of the bar would be in virtual darkness, and all the seating would be shifted up the viewing area.
We only admit underagers (14s-17s) on Fri night, Sat night, and Sun night. In other words for the Wrecking Ball and live music. The movies would be on a Tuesday night so 18 plus.
There would not be a STFU rule, but we close the end of the bar nearest the screen, so that people would have to go down the other end to order. Table service may also be an option since it would save people having to squeeze in and out.
People less interested in the film could sit further back, or drink at the other end of the bar.
Thoughts please...

| Re: regular Movie Night anyone? Excellent idea, might actually get to see decent films.
I'd turn up while I'm still in Aberdeen.
Something different and would probably take off by the sounds of the response you've already had.

| Re: regular Movie Night anyone? Fuck aye!
You mentioned this a couple of years ago and i think it would really take off. Not everyone can get drunk during the week but having a couple of beers and watching a movie would be a hit |

| Re: regular Movie Night anyone? Withnail and I would be a must see at the moorings. We could play the WIthnail and I drinking game but i think we would have to substitute wray and nephews rum for the lighter fluid.
Basicaly you drink everything that withnail drinks so as you can imagine it could get quite messy and is definately not for the weak hearted or folk with delicate contitutions. |

| Re: regular Movie Night anyone? The Scottish Executive is attempting to bring in a smoking ban to all bars and clubs within the next 12 months.
I don't smoke, and my chest gets irritated by smoke. To combat this we installed several high performance air cleaners, and those are really very effective.
Although I personally will be happy when the ban comes in, a lot of bars and clubs are likely to be badly affected. People's jobs will be affected, and some paces will no doubt be forced to close.
Perhaps if more places had installed decent air filtering - the whole smoking thing might never have become an issue.
Although the smoking ban will no doubt affect us, the bar could stand an 80% loss in business without having to shut it's doors, so I'm confident that we'll be OK.
