i'm frankly appalled by Les's suggestions. talk about over-reaction. i mean, it's not like he was putting fireworks up cats' bums.

i'd start with a weekend in the cupboard under the stairs, and if that doesn't work, then put his hair in bunches and make him wear a pink dress to school.

vinegar in the eyes is only appropriate for much worse behaviour.

Explain to him that all property is theft, and that no-one has right of ownership.

It won't stop him from stealing, but it will give him some justification.

I went through a phase of stealing stuff from John Menzies when I was a wee yin, my mum once found a Kylie cassette single and several sparkly bangles stuffed in my pockets.

The threat of 'the gypsies that lived in the park coming to take you' was my deterrent.

I used to steal when I was a wee guy, I remember stealing ice lollies and shit from the shop in p7 and that.
Never got caught.

You have more than one kid? Guessing he probably steals for the attention he feels his younger sibling(s) are getting that he is not. Next time he steals cash from you, point out it is a shame but he will be the one to lose out as the money he took was going towards his Birthday/ xmas presents.
