Just found this out today:
"Hourly fees at council-run nurseries in Glasgow are to increase by almost 42%.
The authority has approved a rise in the hourly rate at nurseries from £1.34 to £2. This means full-time fees could go up from £40.20 per week to £60.
However, the council said the vast majority of parents using its nurseries would end up better off with some paying as little as 15p per hour.
A spokeswoman said families on low income and benefits would be eligible for reduced rates.
The move is part of a new five-year childhood services strategy passed by Glasgow City Council last year.
Other measures included a commitment to providing childcare within buggy-walking distance. "
I had no idea about this, the nursery manager just informed me, so for my son to goto nursery 3 days a week my fees will add upto over £80... WTF!!
Yeah thats what I got. I applied in January to loads of them, and only one nursery responded, and even at that I only got allocated two days. Its so hard these days. If you work and can find a private nursery that accepts tx credits deductions its better to do that than wait for council nurseries.
do yer tax credits no help cover it?
Apparently not. Im hoping I got mixed up when talking to the nursery manager today, but she was mentioning that this is a new thing just started this term, that everyone has to pay somethig towards the fees. I have another meeting tomorow so will ask tonnes of questions until her head pops! I just wanted to find out if everyone has had the same problem.
they barely pay for any of it.
Rachel had a good private nursery and the nursery attatched to her school are really good with places, so ive never had the hell of nursery place.

Well I have been paying full price for one day at a private nursery, purely because I was desperate to get Yoji in somewhere, and if I get into this new nursery as well I stll only have 3 days free to work, which wont really be enough time to earn the amount needed to pay the fees AND rent AND bills etc which I would obv be paying if I start working... GAH!
