If so, try a relatively safe area, such as a secure garden, and keep an eye on things for a while to make sure there's no problems.
Also, when it's dinner time, make dinner as delicious-smelling and yummy as possible, so they keep associating meals with home.

They tend not to stray too far when they're exploring the first time. Just make sure you're there to show them the way back into the house, and definitely agree with goth_pixie's nice smelling dinner suggestion. |

We sat with her while she had a scout around. She seemed quite happy until some dogs came past! She's back in now.
