| Recommend me a DSLR I don't really have a massive budget so some of the canons will be out of the question.
What about the Nikon D40? Found one today for £260
Any guid? |

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR The Nikons not bad. It's a decent price for it too i think. Fairly easy to use. I don't like the feel of the lens, but i think that's just me being weird. Besides you can always stick another lens on it.
How far will your budget stretch? I really like the Olympus E-510 and the Olympus E-410. Plus for a wee bit more you can get them with an extra lens as a twin lens kit.

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR From what I've seen the Nikon D40 is pretty good but a bit lacking in a few features.
Jessops have the Canon 400D for £395 with £45 back from Canon ending you up at around £350. If you look around you'll probably find a better deal, and the 400D is a braw camera for that budget. |

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR i second triggerhappy's suggestion, i've used hers quite a bit and it's a really solid bit of kit for the money.
the equivalent nikons certainly take great pics but i find them a bit fiddly; i'm guessing your big man-hands might also find that.

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR if you haven't got anything yet have a look for the nikon warehouse people on ebay. Canon have an ebay store too. Refurbed and new cameras for much cheapness, and because it's ACTUALLY Nikon and Canon and not randoms you can be a bit safer in the knowledge that you're going to receive what you're actually bidding on. |

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR I have a 350D which is virtually identical to the 400D and I love it - really easy to use and takes some great pics. The kit lense isn't great, but it'll take fine pics of you just want it for personal use. If you're thinking about publishing or making some cash from your pics maybe think about getting a cheapish better lense. |

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR I've got the Canon 350D.. very happy with it.
The only problem I found with switching from a compact to a DSLr was the size of the bloody thing.. cant really just stick it in yer pocket when you go out incase you need it..

| Re: Recommend me a DSLR Just remember the 450D is just out so expect the 400D to drop in price further over the next month or so on top of the recent price drop. |

I have tiny hands and wrists and find it a bit of a hassle to hold the dslr-type still because of its size&weight.
Using a Nikon Coolpix 8800, btw. (And know nothing about cameras, so can't comment on anything other than the size of it, and the fact you can do an Actionsampler-esque 16-in-one shot with it!) |

It came with a 70-300mm lens, lowepro bag and 4gb memory. All for £460
Not bad I think |
