| darkroom access anyone know of public darkrooms and the sort of prices they charge? i'm planning on developing a film this afternoon but obviously will have to way of printing them until i get access to a proper darkroom.
Also, I'm figuring the universities all have darkrooms, but does anyone know what the deal is with getting to use them if you're not actually taking a course?

| on the trongate theres a place called street level, just round from the news shop thing on the corner. they have a darkroom you can use for a few quid, you'd need to go in and find out exact details though, i was only in to see about courses.

| dunno any, sorry, place I used to use closed down for good a long while ago and I have my own darkroom stuff for b&w.
- still tend to just use photoshop to crop, control contrast, dodge & burn though then get a lab to print from the digital file
although I have toyed with the idea of creating negatives on acetate and contact printing onto proper b&w papers....
& remember the rule - you asked a question on AltNation so you have to share some of the pics when they're ready |

...well my mum helped (ie got the film onto the spiral) but i did all the adding and shaking!
...and it worked! Woo! Sorry, just highly excited Obviously if i ever get the chance to print them I'll post stuff - it was a 3200 film too!
the negatives are so purdy! Apparently a bit 'thin' but hmm... i don't care because they worked and you can see trees and people and shadows and all sorts of exciting things!
*calms down*
ahem. anyway. yes. Ta Desova btw

much more satisfying than digicams, creating an actual real image directly on film from the light
& yeah spirals are tricky - there is a knack. Practice with an old film, free supasnaps or something with nothing on it if you don't have one. Saying that even practice it's still damn fiddley!!
don't worry about them being a bit thin, neg film is very forgiving so you'll just get deep blacks - just the way I like |

| I did a photography course in highschool (5th year). Had an actual darkroom there which was pretty cool.....I dont remember much about the actual process but I do remember that the cameras were older than me. |

| i'm tempted to get a film/neg scanner to get some decent high res scans of all the photos i got on film, cos the flatbed isnt that great quality wise (it is about... 5 years old at least)

Em, so I take it they will only scan as black n white or that kinda brown that colour film is? | scanning negs on a flatbed is pretty pointless unless it's like *the transfer* has done - just to get a preview. Colour negs would probably come out v.dark and removing he orange cast could be tricky to do yourself.
fairly cheap to get Jessop's/Boot's to do reprints if they're good pics or I could be persuaded to scan negs for pennies |
