| Annual General Election It’s that time of year again when a sea of coloured T-Shirts, several varying sizes of posters and more free sweets than any one human can stomach suddenly appear outside the Union as we reach the most important Election in our Calendar year.
This March will see everything from the Ordinary Member positions to the President go up for grabs. Whether you think you can organise a committee or run a building you should give some time to think about whether you think you’d be the best person for the job.
Nominations Open on Monday 19th February at 9am and close on Friday 23rd February at 4pm sharp.
The following positions are available:
July 2007 - June 2008 President
Honorary Secretary
Honorary Assistant Secretary
Events Convenor
Publications Convenor
Social Convenor
Support and Services Convenor
March 2007 - March 2008 Former Student Member
5 x Ordinary Board Member
March 2007 - November 2007 4 x Ordinary Board Member
2 x First Year Ordinary Board Member
Nomination packs can be picked up from reception.

| Re: Annual General Election The earlier close is a most excellent idea. No more standing out in the cold when there's actually noone around.
Edit: And I just realised that's for nominations, rather than voting... I got my hopes up there! Although of course spending two extra hours in the cold is nothing when it's all for a good cause.
I can say that I shall be running for Ord Board, can't I? |

Are we allowed one official Election Campaign thread for everyone to post in to stop it getting messy or is it a free for all or a complete no-no? |

I would guess that they wouldn't change the current voting times, as between 5 and 6 could be the only time some people manage to get down to vote, and they'd want to maximise the numbers. |

| Re: Annual General Election Dunno who this Joe character is, but he's certainly no Roz. Given that she's going to win anyway, you may as well vote for her. That way you get to be on the winning team.

Also suggesting that you will get favous off someone just because you vote for them seems to imply that you don't believe that the Board of Management works for every one of our members.
But Since you asked, my name is Joe Evans, in The Last three years, I've been an Ord Board Member, Publications convenor and Honorary Vice President. Amongst a shed load of other stuff, I was one of the main people responsible for the ressurection of qmunicate. the rewriting of vast sections of the Constitution Byelaws and Policy of the Union over the last few years, streamlining the document and our procedures, making it more user friendly and providing continuity and progress. I was responsible for getting J20 in the Bars. I'm a big proponent of The QM's Nestle Ban. I have stuck my oar in about everything and anything in the last year and am one of the most respected voices on the board of management.
If Elected I want to make the Myth that the qm is run 'by students for students' into a reality. I want to get an energy back into the way we act and think, through increased interaction and involvement of the membership and clubs and societies. I want the qm to reestablish itself as the centre of campus.
I have two shows on Subcity, Music Youo can't quite dance to on Mondays at 4 and Top 5 Records on Thursdays at 11am. I was last years SRC Guide Editor and am doing this years at the moment. I am in my final year of a degree of Scottish Literature.
If you want to know anything else, ask here, check one of my pages on a social networking site or pm me.

| Re: Annual General Election oh dear!
to answer your very excellent question Seumas, proving from what this thread's manifested to already, I think your suggestion of one election campaign thread would probably be the best solution to this problem, like an electronic heckling meeting, eh.
However, seeing as I am not Assistant Returning Officer this time round (for obvious reasons, that is, I am also running for El Presidente) it'll be for Gary to make the final decision. I'll flag it up to him though and he'll probably let us know in due course.

As for my online campaign, I hate social networking, so I'm making a Wordpress. More details shortly. |

On a more serious note, I'm fully aware of the crucial role the staff play in the QM, I just want to make sure that the membership gets as much as possible out of the union.
