Calling unsigned bands: want to be on a Big Issue cover-mounted CD?

The Big Issue are currently putting together a CD to give away with their November 13th issue, to aid the cause of Robert Brown, who spent 25 years in jail after being wrongly convicted.

What they are asking you to do is write a song about 'injustice'. They will then choose the 10 best and they'll appear on the CD, along with information inside the magazine, and the chance to play a gig at a big Glasgow venue (currently under consideration are the Barras and the Garage).

Bumpity bump. Do you really not want to be on a CD that goes out to 40,000 people? And play a massive gig? They're also gonna send them to all manner of labels...

i looked at this the other day and thought it'd be really cool. Only thing is, unless you have a song about injustice already it involves writing it, practising it and recording it. Which takes time and money. You can't rush the creative process maaaaaaaaaaaan! Still tempted mind you, but seeing as how we can't even get off our arses to make a decent demo this is just not gonna happen.

Heh yeah obviously, but it would be silly to record a song without knowing exactly what's involved, ie, get the application form first.

It's a top opportunity though, you should go defo go for it. Everyone should.

Notes:

1. For legal and publishing reasons, all tracks must be original compositions
containing no samples of commercially available music, unless a formal
release has been secured and evidence of its validity can be produced.
2. Tracks must be submitted in a CD format that will play on a normal CD player.
3. Masters in DAT or Wav format should be retained for mastering/overdubbing
/remixing purposes.
4. Artists will retain all rights to their track but they will be asked to sign a
disclaimer authorising free, one off use by "The Big Issue in Scotland".
5. Disclaimers will only be issued if the track is chosen for the final CD.
