Feeder - Silent Cry - Page 3

Silent Cry is Feeder’s sixth album but it could easily be any of them as they all sound the same. Bland rock acts can sometimes muster offense by their blandness but Feeder can’t even reach that pinnacle of Snow Patrol turdness.

Brisk drums, banal guitar work married to insipid vocals and melodies are the order of the day in a fashion that makes the Stereophonics resemble the Supersuckers.

We Are The People opens the record on would be chest beating anthemics, “Why do we pray? Why do we talk about angels flying on their golden wings?”. Even fucking Creed would’ve thought twice about this track’s pompous metaphysics, marrying rubbish lyrics to big diet-metal guitars. Dragged out to nearly five minutes, We Are The People well…drags.

Follow up Itsumo is more or less the same song but with louder bass in the mix. Miss You is slightly better, a brisk pop punk number that rattles along and manages the record’s...

So really, it is pointless then!

Ok, so unlike magazines that NEED to kiss bands arses because of deals and links they have with music labels, etc, our reviews are probably more realistic and trustworthy?

That’s a commonly held misconception. Music magazines are not ‘the man’. Unless you’re talking about the little advertising sheets given away in HMV to promote new releases or something similar, there is no such backscratching going on. Reviewers really do just tell you what they honestly think. That’s their job.

Reviews are meant to be an entertaining read that simultaneously tells you a little something about the subject matter. End of story.

I prefer the Top Gear 'cool wall' style of reviews, or even the Chewin the fat 'good guy/wank' decision - more entertaining and more to the point!

That's not very nice! Plus the amount of babble you get in some reviews just wastes my time and bores me, and i like to be entertained!

We dont want people just doing reviews of the stuff they like.. but at the same time, is there any point in asking someone to review something if you know they'll already hate it without having even listened to it?

You wouldnt ask the spokesperson for the extreme right wing of the BNP to review the new Michael Jackson album.... without knowing roughly what to expect..

Did anyone ask him to review it? I assumed it was done off his own back. I don't think we get Feeder records in the post! Unless I'm mistaken, your point is moot.

Like Mark said, blustery alt-rock is his specialist subject.

Actually, I think we do.. we're on lots of the PR company mailing lists..

Heh. I do understand the basic concept of we receive records in the post to review. It helps with the whole reviewing records for the site thing that I try to do as often as possible. I simply meant that I don't recall us receiving a promo of the Feeder album. As I said though, I could be completely wrong and it may just have escaped my notice. Worth being wrong for the chuckle the patronising remark above gave me though.
