Tobacco Cures Cancer

Well, not exactly.

The tobacco plant is being used, somewhat ironically and after a bit of biotechnological jiggery-pokery, to produce large quantities of a patient-specific antibody (from the wording of the BBC article, I think they might mean antigen, but I haven't read the study yet) which will prime the body to attack a particular kind of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. They hope.

So if we eat cigarettes instead of smoking them, it'll reverse the effects of years of smoking?

This will probably be a headline based on this research coming to a Daily Mail near you soon.

Those scientists, eh? One minute it's bad for you, the other it's good for you. Sheesh.

I understand the principles. I couldn't talk about specific examples off the top of my head, but if I looked them up or read about them I'd understand it.
