| Glasgow Buddhist Centre Anyone know if this place is open all day? I fancy going down tomorrow AM to ask a few questions and gain some knowledge. If it's set "classes" and such, as is denoted by it's website, then I'll stay clear and try elsewhere. |

| Re: Glasgow Buddhist Centre Nah, it's the gaff on Sauchiehall street. Next to or near the "Kama Sutra" restaurant, I believe.
Easy to miss, up some close.
But where is this temple? I'm just after some guidance and general answers atm. Anything other than my basic knowledge, really. |

| Re: Glasgow Buddhist Centre I think they have some set classes and some more relaxed drop in type stuff. They seem friendly enough too from chatting to folk that have something to do with the place in my PR ing adventures. That being said I've never set foot in the place.
There's another Buddhist centre on Maryhill road next to the train station where the bank od scotland is and the church that got knocked down. just opposite the ram's head pub.
you could try contacting them if the Sausageroll Street one isn't what you were looking for. It looks fairly small though. |

| Re: Glasgow Buddhist Centre it's like, you know just up from the glasgow academy, you have a block of shops like a cheeseshop and a domino's etc? you turn left and then you go down a block and ahalf through the hosues there and it's this massive white house that looks ordinary but even looking through the window, you can tell it's like all chinesey and that.
you'll get some people who actually have authority in the buddhism world in there, sometimes even the big important guy cos his daughter usually runs that place but i think she's based in hong kong now anyway.

Oakfield avenue? I know the general area, but would get lost looking for a Buddhist temple in a random set of houses.
To be honest, I'm not looking for a temple, I'm looking for someone in the know to guide me in the right direction. I'm not 100% here. |

I found Samyé Ling is quite commercial. It reminds me of some of the Christian sects from the US in some ways, although I'm sure it's just the Monks adapting to survive in a country where they can't survive off the kindness and faith of others. That said, my cousin is a horrific advert for Buddhism. I don't actually know a more money grabbing, self obsessed WAG-type then her, yet she's getting married at Samyé Ling next month. |

well, it's the place to go for lectures, discussions, research and also conversion into buddhism. they have a lot of books and that in their mini library as well as people who live the buddhism life on a daily basis and practice and learn it constantly. Quote:

sunday mornings will definitely have people in, loads and loads and loads of buddhists, all there for a lecture, prayer and free lunch.
think of it like a sort of church, always has people in there, but in a four storey mansiony house.

Might take a wonder down and have a chat with them myself sometime. |

| Re: Glasgow Buddhist Centre Dyno, Kama Sutra is on Sauchihall Street, just up the road from me. I didn't know this place existed.
I'd WELL be up for going, in all seriousness. I've been reading a wee bit about Buddhism recently and it's something I'd take an interest in.

| Re: Glasgow Buddhist Centre in new york i lived right next to this guy
a statue of Shinran Shonin, founder of the Jodo Shinshu school of Buddhism. whatever that means. anyhow, it's about 20 feet tall, and scary as fuck, and to boot it's also radioactive, cos the statue was in hiroshima when it was bombed - and later given to new york as a gift, to symbolise peace.
freaky-ass thing to grow up next to. so yeah, buddhism scares me.
