#1 | | Guest | Caley wireless network? Has the wireless network within the uni been made available to students yet? Last time I was at uni, the Learning Cafe had wireless installed but unavailable and I know the library has moved to the new learning centre now.
Just want to know if it's worth my while buying a laptop to study | |

Or for around £400 you'll get a decent wee machine from Dell as long as you dont want anything fancy.
£600 will get you one of the now superceeded Apple iBooks, still with the full warranty..

| Re: Caley wireless network? Buy a MacBook + iPod through the education store and you'll get £100 off the iPod. Sell the iPod and you'll effectively get a MacBook for about £550. |

| Re: Caley wireless network? if its your own laptop you will get access to the "guest" network which just gives you internet access, if you stay in caley court or borrow a a university laptop from the base then you will get full access to the caledonian domain via the gcu corporate network.
you dont get allowed on the domain with your own machines because the integrity of the network cant be guarenteed and that they cant be sure you wont infect the network with a virus from your machine from home Quote:

| Re: Caley wireless network? I reckon someone should do a post-grad research project on securing the network to allow outside hardware to be used on the network.
