i find myself in the same boat. i've not had any special help, just taken the opportunities i was given and had a bit of luck along the way i guess, but it's all too easy for people to think that highers=uni=graduate=graduate career and these days it just doesn't work like that. not only that, but offering graduate schemes has become the done thing and many companies don't offer structured paths and good incentives any more. it's almost like managerial work without the associated pay.

Re: So you didn't get the results you wanted?

I stayed on to 6th year, got 6 highers which could have practically got me into most Uni courses, couldn't quite decide what I wanted to do, planned to take a year out & work to get some money behind me and at this point (7 years later) I'm still working and haven't quite made it to uni.

Any regrets, not really. I like my job & get paid well for it, I've picked up a couple of qualifications over the years at the expense of my old employer and am in a position now where I can choose to go back and do a course of my choice if I want.

My school did try to push me down the Uni route, but I was reluctant to commit 4 or 5 years to something I wasn't quite sure about and I'm glad I went against the pressure now.
