True. There are no fat people at Strathclyde, it just doesnt happen. I appended quite a lot to the campus pictures at WikiMapia. It's a bit odd to look at if you've never used that tool before, but basically people draw boxes around areas of interest, which you can click and see a note about it. I did most of the campus with random facts which so far no one has messed with. Although people in this thread are likely to do that now.
I've been there 5 years and like it lots. It doesn't have the 'campus' feel Glasgow Uni has, but if you can be bothered looking there's loads to be found there. Great facilities too, it has some of the best wireless coverage in town for example.

The gym and the swimming pool are good too, as is the Union.

Oh, and http://www.strathstudents.com/ is a good site for information about the Union and other events.

I tried to get into the Journalism and Creative Writing course, but my portfolio wasn't good enough

I'm trying to think now - which building that course would be in...
Anyways there's a superb new internet cafe on campus, it's amazingly good. Plus as Devastator said the Gym is top-notch and the Union is massive. It's got a good central location for bars as well, plus loads of transport links. There's quite a few forumers who study there, so if you need shown around I'm sure you'd find a few willing guides

Re: Questions about Strathclyde

Blatant plug here!

If you can, try and make Strathy's open day, being held in two weeks time on Tuesday 5th of September. It's a great opportunity to find out loads of info about your course and see what the campus is like.

There will be loads of stalls set up in the sports hall (just off Cathedral Street). Each stall is manned by lecturers from each course so you can speak to them about career options, what the course is like etc. You can pick up leaflets about the courses too.

There's plenty of lectures going on throughout the day, which will give you a course overview. Pick up a leaflet in the sports hall for the lecture times. There will be students placed on site to give you directions so you won't get lost.

There will also be campus tours as well to give you a better idea of the layout. We'll take you to around the halls which are all on campus.

Also you should be able to pick up a temporary pass for the union that day as well so you can have a wee swatch at our 10 floor union (biggest licenced venue in Scotland, I think) and you'll probably see the gym as well.

If you hadn't guessed, i'll be working at it

Re: Questions about Strathclyde

Glasgow does do a postgrad Creative Writing course (which is apparently very good) but I'm not sure about journalism. I had a mate who did some journalism course at Strathclyde. He really enjoyed it and went on to get a job working for a local paper up North last thing I heard.

Re: Questions about Strathclyde

Thanks so much everyone, all this is great.

GoddamnElectric, thanks for those links and all the info. I appreciate it! And I'll keep in mind the potential guides, that would be awesome.

Rhona, I would love to come to the Open Days, but unfortunately I live all the way in Estonia, and a flight is more than I can afford right now. I'm also in my last year of IB, and going on extra vacation would be a bad idea. I doubt I can make it. Sounds terrific though, I wish I could.

Ahhh, who remembers the confusion and the puzzlement and the oh-god-I-have-to-stop-changing-my-mind of trying to choose a university? ; )

Re: Questions about Strathclyde

Ha, yup that was a long time ago for me now though. But I certainly don't regret coming to Glasgow, it can be a great city, there's a hell of a lot going on.

Good luck with your IB

Re: Questions about Strathclyde

Strathclyde and Glasgow are both great Universities. Whatever one you end up at you will have a great degree course I am sure

They are both in great locations and both get high write ups for their teaching

Thanks. IB can be hell, but I believe it'll prepare me well so I'm not complaining [most of the time].

Rhona
No worries

System star
That sounds great : ) I think I've pretty much made up my mind about Strathclyde. Fingers crossed they like my portfolio!
