I got a snide email from Louise Garden last week sent to all the uni email accounts telling folk to be quiet in the Saltire and not to hog computers. Apparently they're going to start booting folk off if they see bags and shit holding computer places.
Thing with the beanbags is, if it was your regular local library I'd think it was a great idea but it doesn't really promote the Saltire centre as being a learning zone for adults. Works in theory but not in practice. | |

That's not a dig at Cale peeps (well.... maybe it is, depends on your point of view) it's the honest truth. Bean bags dont really project an image of adult learning.

| Re: The Saltire Centre As for banning access to "fun sites" in the Saltire centre and not in labs, that's a terrible idea. It should be vice-versa as people in labs need to use specialist programs (ie ANSYS, Fluent etc.)

| Re: The Saltire Centre I think there are a couple of general purpose labs, but the majory are specialist and class based, so the idea of punting people in there to waste time rather than the cafe is just nuts

| Re: The Saltire Centre There's plenty of computer labs about, actually - you can use any computer room on the campus, as long as it's not being used for a class. Even then it's sometimes ok with lecturer permission.

| Re: The Saltire Centre So do kids today not enjoy writing essays in the learning cafe? Even with the noise, it was fairly usable. Costa on hand too... |

| Re: The Saltire Centre I'd shut the Saltire Centre, just like I shut the beach on Amity Island.
Students don't need PCs or Laptops. Peace and quiet is what is required these days. £300 for a laptop out PC world, thats only 5 nights out on the bevvy. |

Unfortunately the original library and all it's computers and study space was replaced by the Saltire Centre, not augmented by it.
Ah and people got mad at me for criticising it back in the day... yet another case of being right, as usual. |

I don't think the Saltire is necessarily bad, but I agree that the CLIC should have been kept open as well.
