| The Stevie Building I can't decide whether to join the GU Gym or the Glasgow Club (or whatever it's called).
Anyone frequent the gym at the Stevie building? Is it gooD? Does it get well busy? Do they have punch bags?
Cheers

| Re: The Stevie Building I think it's Glasgow Uni Sport & Recreation Services that you join, which also gives you membership in GUSA and use of the pitches and things up at the Garscube complex.
The Gym is quite good, but it does get busy sometimes. I'm told going in the morning is the best time if you want a quiet workout.
While your a student, it's the best value gym you'll find as you only have to pay £30 per year, which is nowt compared to some of the big gyms around Glasgow.

| Re: The Stevie Building the gym is incredibly well priced and hs fantastic facilities but doesn't have a punch bag. there may be one used for certain clubs but it's not out for public use. apart from that tho, you'll not go far wrong. great free weights selection, great machines, plenty of cardio gear, a pool, a sauna, a steam room, the full size hall available for hire dirt cheap and squash courts. all that plus a huge range of courses, classes and instruction, all for £30 quid a year. there are no gyms around that offer that kind of price because of the subsidies the uni gives.

Definately really good value for money, £30 a year is nothing! There's loads of classes you can do as well as use the gym, pool, sports hall etc and everyone is really friendly.

| Re: The Stevie Building I know it is really good value, but I live about 30 seconds from North Woodside Leisure Centre and would probably end up going a lot more. Thats 15 quid a month for students though.

| Re: The Stevie Building I've used both - the Stevie is good, and is beacoup cheap (£30 a year? it was a fiver when I was there!!!) - The Glasgow Club gyms are good value for money (you can use any of them), but it's £15 or whatever a month for students - they've generally got good facilities, but the actual gyms are mostly smaller than the Uni ones (because they're not subisidised, and there's more of them.) similar range of classes are available. |

| Re: The Stevie Building I'm a member of the Stevie, I think it's awesome value, £30 a year for as much weights, cardio, swimming, as you want, which works out well since I go to the gym a few times a week (or at least try to, it kinda fell apart in exam time!)
Best avoided on weekdays 4-6pm though, always busy as fuck, apparently early mornings are quiet although I'm never up for working out that early. |

I wonder if I may be able to join the Glasgow Club for the £15 a month too.

Incidently OU Glasgow branch meetings are apparently quite good - although I never went to one for fear of being the youngest person there.

I can but try though.
I was not the youngest at my first tutorial today, which, was fun....
It was VERY different from being at Uni

It was VERY different from being at Uni | I know someone (friend of a friend type thing) who tutors the OU psychology course doon Bristol way - he had a whole tutorial pretty much reduced to a "debate" with one "mature" student who insisted that human cognition and the mind had absolutely nothing to do with the physical brain...
OU - different in a good way?

| Re: The Stevie Building Mo, the link I posted shows you all the info you need about membership to the gym, but you can join if you're a graduate too (just bit more expensive). Get a job at the uni, £7.50 a month.

OU - different in a good way? | Different in a way that I'm not going to expose on an open forum Quote:
