Offensive Material on YouTube
Message from the Secretary to the University
Formal disciplinary action has recently been taken by the University against students who were involved in offensive material linked to the University being posted on YouTube. The students were formally reprimanded and required to pay for damage incurred during the making of the films.
While much of the information posted on YouTube is harmless, there have been instances where material has been offensive. Before posting material on YouTube (or any similar service) which mentions the University's name or involves students or staff of the University, please consider ways in which that material may be offensive, including:
- breach of another person's right to privacy and confidentiality;
- damage to the University's property or reputation;
- behaviour which is offensive, disorderly or illegal.
Dr Peter W.A. West
Secretary to the University

| Re: Strathclyde Youtube Disciplinary If you have a look at what can be seen under the Strathclyde University tag, there's footage of a streaker and of a student who is drunk in a lecture, according to the information, at least. Allegedly, and all that. What was pulled may well have been worse. |

| Re: Strathclyde Youtube Disciplinary One of my mates recently got in a spot of bother when someone from Clydebank College found a video he made about the place and posted it on YouTube. The video was pure satire, titled "Student Excuses For Missing Class" or something and centred around characters missing class due to smack addictions and such, and I believe it was even made as part of an outcome for his Video Editing course. He has received an e-mail to let him know that they are "dischuffed", to use one of my lecturer's favourite words, fuck knows where it goes from there though. |
