English Lit/politics books for sale

Clearing out my cupboard so that I can afford more books, and some shoes that don't leak water! These were all bought for 1st/2nd year but you might find them useful even if you're further on. I've set prices but feel free to haggle if you're buying a few:

The following are £3 each:
Martin Amis - Money
Jane Austen - Emma
Charlotte Bronte - Villette
Charles Dickens - Great Expectations
Harold Pinter - The Homecoming
Philip Roth - The Human Stain
William Shakespeare - Much Ado About Nothing
William Shakespeare - Othello
Oscar Wilde - The Best of... Collection (ed. Robert Pearce)
Virginia Woolf - Mrs Dalloway

Odds and ends, individually priced:
York Notes Advanced - Much Ado About Nothing £3
American Government (Brief 7th edition, Lowi and Ginsberg) £10
Govt. and Politics of the EU (3rd Edition, Nugent et al) £4
How to Study Modern Poetry - Tony Curtis £2
How to Study a Novel - John Peck £2

The following are £20 each, or £30 together:
Norton Anthology of English Literature vol. 1
Norton Anthology of English Literature vol. 2

Please PM or reply here if you're interested in anything and I'll be in touch. Ideally I'm looking to meet-up in Glasgow and get cash in hand, but I suppose other arrangements can be made. No postage on the Norton though, sorry!

I think you're being a wee bit optimistic with some of those prices to be honest.

It was the Norton that first surprised me, but after a wee bit of research it seems that the Anthology has gone up in price since I bought mine many moons ago! If it's in good nick then that's a fair enough price

You'll struggle to sell:

Jane Austen - Emma
Charlotte Bronte - Villette
Charles Dickens - Great Expectations
William Shakespeare - Much Ado About Nothing
William Shakespeare - Othello
Virginia Woolf - Mrs Dalloway

for three quid since they can all be picked up new from Bargain Books on Byres Road for about £1.50, unfortunately.

Still, I hope you do manage to get some cash for them (although I wholeheartedly disapprove of the selling of books thing ;p)

You should stick up some notices in the library vending machine room, the QM and GU notice boards and in the English Lit dept. itself... Probably sell them quicker there (obv. the Adam Smith notice board for the politics books )

Good luck!

Not as much as I disapprove of sisters (namely mine) snagging your books for their own use, and refusing to compensate on the grounds that "I'm just borrowing it"

So once she's done, I'm left with books too old to sell, and I have no use for them.

I can beat that.

I went out one day and returned home to find that my mother had taken half of my books to the charity shop and was in the process of packing up the rest when I got there.

Why would anyone do that? Still raging, years later.

Aye, I had a look at the going rates for the textbooks and I've got them all at around about half of what they'll retail at. Norton's are usually around £30 each now and you're pretty much required to buy both anyway.

Didn't know about the bargains on the classics, but I guess I'll just have to hope no one else does either! Cheers for the tips.

Re: English Lit/politics books for sale

They're all first year books, I'm sure you'll find a naïve fresher to take them off your hands
