| Dissertations Who else is doing one, what's yours on, and are you too, nearing a nervous breakdown?
I'm doing sociology and mine is about youth culture and death metal/extreme music. I'm still narrowing it down, should get a proper title sorted by next week.

Written one chapter so far, and bits and bobs of other chapters. It looks like a fucking mountain at the moment.

| Re: Dissertations I'm stressing a bit more about my exams. Shouldn't you have had a title sorted though? Are you working on a later timetable than Caledonian Uni?
Oh aye, mine is 'Investigation into motivational factors affecting gender deficit in educational attainment in the UK'.

| Re: Dissertations Mine's due 27th March.
I know what it's about, I've got loads of work done for it, it's just figuring out what I want to focus on.
Do you have to do your 3rd year topics this year too?

| Re: Dissertations 3rd year topics? I'm in 4th year. Mine's due April and I've done very little 'work', aside from reading and researching. I've done my oral and written presentations though. Got the fucking guilt because I've done literally zero work on it since December (examz).

| Re: Dissertations Naw I mean for your exams?
Glasgow have lumped my 3 rd and 4th year topics into one big lot of exams in April. I now have the fear.

| Re: Dissertations I think most other unis did.
Would much rather have done my exams for my 3rd year stuff last year when it was all still fresh in my mind.

| Re: Dissertations Aye, that's daft, to have the exams 18 months after you've learned the stuff. Curbs rote learning, I s'pose. I've never heard of that type of exam schedule.

| Re: Dissertations Hate it. Mine was supposed to be finished by the end of last summer, then by Christmas... needless to say it's still a work in progress.
Done 3,800 words outta 7000-9000 but it's all very bitty, and makes me wanna cry. I'm beginning to realise my question might actually be shit, but also that it's a bit late to change tack. Yesterday I got all the info about deadlines etc for the modules I'm taking this semester, so I'm hoping that'll give me the kick up the arse I need to blitz it. March and April are gonna be horrible in terms of finals and exams, and my first piece of coursework is due in mid-February, so I'm hoping I can convince myself to ignore the end-of-March dissertation deadline and hand it in by Valentine's Day.
Good luck to all you fellow procrastinators. |
