| QM vs G.U. Clearly this has been done all too many times, but in me going back to uni on the 10th, the freshers will be asking this question allot. So lets get some insights into the pros and cons of both, so i may look these freshers in the eye and give them an educated response.
I'll kick off by saying, QM is better, but i will not yet disclose why.

| I was a QM member for 4 years, so you can probably guess which side of the divide I sit on.
I just preferred the atmosphere at the QM, there was none of the 'rugger bugger' mentality you get at the GU, everyone was more relaxed.
Plus, Jim's Bar (or Quintin's Bistro as it became known after it's facelift at the start of last year) has a well better jukebox. I also liked Qudos more than the Dive, and Cheesy was always a much better night than anything the GU put on.

| QM just cos it used to be the cool 'Alternative' Union.
GUU was always for the trendy/slapper/rugby/snob people.
Not that we ever stereotyped people.......
Apparently the QM is getting trendier because "too many Asians use the GUU" (please note I never said that) now and it lowers the tone for the rugby snobs. Prats. |

| Yep they can.
But more to the point, so can life members of the QM, which I will be whenever I get around to getting passport photos.
PS the QM's officially not the alt union anymore: in 2001/2 membership figures were QM 5000, GUU 3500...

| I was more meaning 'alternative' as used to describe certain music/clothes/image/lifestyle choices (Been a life-member of RGUnion for the past 7/8/9? years - I still have a student inside of me trying to get out and 'borrow' traffic cones......) |

| I think I'll be joining the QMU. I just like the atmosphere there more than GUU.

| Oi, stop the labing of all rugby players as snobs
I play rugby, and in no way shape or form am a snob
the correct term your are looking to use are the West Of Scotland, Hillhead/Jordanhill rugby players, who are so up their own arse it's not true.
Trust me, if you were to come to Cartha Queen's Park R.F.C, in the south side of Glasgow, and you would get a warm welcome

Reading it back my post doesn't sound as lighthearted as I meant it and I was very aware that I was unfairly stereotyping people. Shall try not to do it again. |

| No, mabbie i was a little too hard on first reading.
It's just i'm a very tired at fighting people who believe that you need to have tons of money, or that it's all about having an massive brawl, or that it's for gay people.
I believe i was a little harsh, and i am also am sorry

......
I believe i was a little harsh, and i am also am sorry | Don't back down , you made your point correctly & with civility so you have no need to apologise.
There is a certain stereotype attached to university rugby players, but I should know better than to use negative generalisations (which I dislike immensely) about anything!
& I'm still waiting to hear why Aragorn thinks the QM is better..... |

| Well, Woolies, i'm just used to backing down on stuff on the internet, and i'm well aware of the sterotype attacted to uni rugby players, "Oh, my daddy is a top banker, what's your dad work as?" etc.
I so wish they would shut up, if your any kind of thoughtful rugby player, you do your talking on the field
