| Re: Advanced Higher Art I done higher art for 5th year, was pretty good up until the last minute when the work was literally dumped on us....i chose not to do it in 6th year (yes, im still at school )....but thats my opinion...there are more "Artists" who are more keen than me The theme i done was machinery....and a secondary theme was sea shells (go on, shoot me )....and both were combined together to make a watch, which i designed, looked quite cool...but the SQA have still got it....*thumps desk*....buggers

| Re: Advanced Higher Art I got a B at Advanced higher, It was a design unit I chose and it was designing an outfit for a beach wedding. The advanced higher was so laid back compared to the higher, mainly because of the fact that there was only 2 students taking it!! The route you chose all depends on whether you are using the end result to get into art school... The SQA like you to have an orgainised sequenced easy to follow result, where-as the Art school like to see lots of ideas and evidence that you are imaginative and motovated... If u want an A, be sequenced, showing that you have tried all the ideas you liked, but have ended up with the final outcome bcos it is the best, If you're wanting into Art school, be very experimental, show you have flair as well as talent, don't be afraid to try something out and have it go wrong.. -they'll only love u more for it!
Oh lord I'm pissed, and I only hope to god that all that made sense!!
Oh, and good luck! |

One of my still life works for SYS Photography was assorted animal skulls/bones, gear cogs, heavy machine parts etc, and a shit load of offal, which smelled lovely after 3 days under studio lights

| Re: Advanced Higher Art ahh thanks
well i'm doing expressive so design isn't much use but a beach wedding that is pretty cool
i don't know what to do as my theme cause the only thing i can think of is all the generic shit that gets done every year like "depression melancholy sadness" etc etc i want to do something a bit different. I want to do sluts with fishnet high shoes red lipstick and all that but i think i might get expelled so i don't think that's really a possibility.
Lorna what was the theme you wanted to do but weren't allowed?
I also considered the whole body art thing but i don't know how i could tie that into an expressive unit where I'm doing portraiture. I appreciate everyone's help &ideas though, keep them coming!
&sorry jaye, I didn't know there was an art forum |

| Re: Advanced Higher Art if you wanted to tie in the fishnets/red lipstick a bit, you could always edge at some sort of 'feminist' 'commercialism' 'stronger sex' type thing.
At our school, that sort of thing was widely encouraged (hell, higher drama plays were full of lesbian rape sex scenes) though I could see why some schools would be against it. |

erm..i took art all through school..was meant to take advanced but left to start work. Got an A in higher doin ethnic and nature...so much variety that way but highly boring and average.Made a lovely cusion..which the exam board never sent back
Dont be swayed by my grade...done portraiture and my solution looked like a troll mahahaha! either i have a warped mind or i need some serious plastic surgery! hahaaha! most likely.
what are you planning on making in ur design unit? |

| Re: Advanced Higher Art in advanced higher you only do design or expressive, not both, like in higher.
&&linz, i like the ones you suggested, but i don't know if they'd be strong enough... like... ahh i dunno it's just an idea really, &i don't know how willing my "model" would be to strip off and pose for my [male] art teacher hmm |

| Re: Advanced Higher Art i did AH art last year
got an A
i did expressive with an essay on Frida Kahlo, and began just doing eyes and broadened it to what my teacher could only identify as identity because it had lots of sub topics like people hiding their true feelings behind a smile, attitudes over appearance (vanity, eating disorders) etc and more
you should start out on something simple, then you can lead it onto lots of other things and not end up drawing yourself into a corner
eg. my mate started drawing his ring and ended up drawing animal skeletons and my other friend who started drawing a ring ended up drawing decaying and rusted things (because she drew the rings from boat chains and stuff)
world = your oyster |
